Location: Construction (WA) - Port Hedland

Description

We are currently searching for an experienced HSE Adviser for a new role, working across a number of our construction projects in the Pilbara region. The role will be working on a 2 weeks on, 1 week off roster, FIFO from Perth or residential for local persons.

Reporting directly through to the Project Manager, you will provide leadership in HSE related matters, including integration and application of BGC’s TRISAFE program and you will actively support and coach the project team to promote a Thriving Health and Safety culture on site.
 

Key Responsibilities:

 

·         Assist management in the creation, formalisation, monitoring and measurement of Thriving Health and Safety Culture plans

·         Host conversations and demonstrate ability to reinforce safe behaviours and address at-risk behaviours from a personalised view rather than a compliance perspective

·         Communicate, explain and monitor project HSE objectives and targets

·         Delivery of BGC and Client HSE initiatives and programs

·         Coaches and influences management and workers, including subcontractors, on HSE related matters in a consultative and engaging manner

·         Effectively lead, communicate and coach workers and supervision on TRISAFE and/or client safety behavioural program to the workforce

·         Integrates TRISAFE and/ or client safety behavioural programs into facets of operation

·         Identify, implements and coaches others on Project legislative, contractual and other HSE obligations

·         Develops, and adjust as required, HSE Management Plans that incorporate Client requirements and monitor implementation

·         Develops Project risk and/ or aspect and impact registers and facilitate internal workshops, including reviews following changes to project scope, work methodology or local conditions

·         Trend hazards and risks on the project/s and provide insight into mitigating measures that can be implemented

·         Assist project team/s in application of change management process

·         Coaches site personnel and management in the application of risk mitigation tools ie. JHAs/ SWMS, hazard reports etc.

·         Proficient in the use of chemical management databases and completion of chemical risk assessments. Evaluate and coach in the storage, handling or use of chemicals in compliance to regulations

·         Implements BGC and client health management requirements, including conducting drug and alcohol testing

·         Work with management and Corporate HSE to implement recommendations provided from health surveys i.e. identified noisy/ dusty work environments

·         Assist with coordination of incident response and reporting of incidents as per BGC and Client incident reporting requirements

·         Conduct incident investigations in a timely manner and assist investigation team leader in the coordination of incident investigations;

·         Monitor and report on action status for timely closeout

·         Review and communicate key trends and learnings on project incidents

·         Work with the BGC Injury Manager in the coaching of the project team in the application of injury management onsite and assist with the development of RTWP

·         Assist projects/ Branch in scheduling and executing emergency exercises

·         Coordinate and chair Branch HSE management meeting

·         Establishes a sound working relationship with Client representatives

·         Develops and delivers project inductions, toolbox topic presentations and any additional site specific HSE information

·         Deliver BGC Corporate induction to applicable new site personnel

·         Monitor and review HSE registers

·         Assist project teams and Branch with scheduling inspection of equipment eg. Electrical testing, fire extinguishers, first aid kits, lifting equipment.

·         Report on subcontractor HSE performance and assist with evaluating subcontractor’s JHA/SWMS

·         Conduct HSE inspections

·         Coordinate training needs, including conducting VOC for all mobile plant,  in line with BGC and site management requirements

·         Maintain an up-to-date version of the site training matrix and personnel training and competency records

·         Provide clear leadership and direction and promotes and fosters a team culture consistent with the BGC Contracting CHARTER Values and TRISAFE

 

Selection Criteria;

·         Previous experience in a similar HSE role, working on construction projects within the mining sector;

·         Tertiary qualification in OHS or similar;

·         Formal training in Root Cause Analysis tools (e.g. TapRoot, ICAM);

·         Ability to work autonomously and proactively participate in project teams;

·         Apply First Aid Course;

·         Sound knowledge in Microsoft Office and Cintellate (or similar incident management systems);

·         Must hold valid Australian Driver’s Licence.
