Shotfirers - Mount Webber Project

BGC Contracting is the largest Australian privately owned Mining and Construction company. BGC Contracting currently has projects nationally in Western Australia, South Australia, New South Wales and Queensland.

We are currently seeking an experienced Shotfirers for our Mt Webber Mining Operations working on a 2:1 roster FIFO form Perth.

Mount Webber is an Iron Ore mine located 250km South-Southeast of Port Hedland for which BGC Contracting manages the mining and ore processing on behalf of Atlas Iron, (the client). 

The Shotfirer is responsible for the safe and efficient implementation of blasting practices to achieve project production targets.

Key Responsibilities;

  • Ensure the safe, use, storage, security, transport and handling of explosives on the project site in accordance with all statutory and company procedural requirements.
  • Ensure all shot-crew personnel comply with all statutory and company procedural requirement.
  • Ensure all blasting practices conform to relevant Australian Mining, OH&S and Explosives & Dangerous Goods Legislation.
  • Ensure magazine records are accurately maintained to required standards and sufficient explosive stock is maintained so as not to adversely impact on production requirements.
  • Ensure all blasting practices conform to any Client site specific environmental requirements.  
  • Ensure housekeeping in magazines, magazine compound, explosive vehicles and work areas is maintained to a high level.
  • Ensure that blasting specifications and quality requirements are met.
  • Ensure blast reports are accurately completed on the required forms and provided to the D&B Supervisor at the end of each shift.
  • Ensure relevant Pre-start checks are completed prior to commencement of work activities.
  • Initiate and formulate relevant JHAs where necessary for specific work activities.
  • Operate ancillary equipment (stemming loader etc) in accordance with BGC procedures

The Applicants should have;

  • At least two years operational experience as a shot-firer in a mining environment.
  • Current WA Shot-firers Licence.
  • Current WA Dangerous Good Security Card.
  • Strong technical skills.
  • Current manual vehicle drivers licence .
  • Knowledge of and understanding of Mines Safety & Inspection Act 1994 and Mines Safety and Inspection Regulations 1995
