Description

Evergreen Treatment Services, a private nonprofit that has been in operation since 1973, has earned a local, regional and national reputation for excellence in the services we provide.  ETS operates three federally accredited opioid treatment programs for adults with opioid use disorders across western Washington, and a street-based, outreach and case management program for homeless adults with chemical dependency in downtown Seattle.  We will be opening our fourth clinic in summer, 2016 in south King county (Renton).

 

The Medical Assistant is responsible for performing a variety of clinical and administrative procedures to assist with patients in one or more agency program.  Administrative duties include: answering telephones, greeting patients, updating and filing patients' medical records, filling out insurance forms, handling correspondence, scheduling appointments, arranging for laboratory services, and handling billing and bookkeeping.  Clinical duties include: taking medical histories and recording vital signs, explaining treatment procedures to patients, preparing patients for examination, and assisting the medical provider during the examination.

 

The nature of this position is fast-paced, requires considerable multi-tasking and involves exceptional interpersonal skills.  The position also requires regular interaction with the executive team, employees and external stakeholders.  


Job Functions (May Include)

  1. Prepare and maintain exam rooms and treatment areas.Keep exam rooms stocked with adequate medical supplies, maintain instruments, prepare sterilization as required

  2. Greet patients and escort to exam room.Prepare patients for examination and assist medical staff in exam rooms.Ensure all related reports, labs and information is filed is available in patients’ medical records prior to their appointment

  3. Escort patients to exam rooms, interview patients, obtain patient history, measure vital signs, including weight, blood pressure, pulse, temperature, observe and report patients' signs or symptoms and document all information in patient’s chart.

  4. Sterilize equipment and instruments

  5. Perform electrocardiograms

  6. Capillary blood withdrawal, venipuncture, and intradermal, subcutaneous, and intramuscular injections

  7. Urinalysis collection

  8. Administer permitted medications as permitted by RCW 18.360.050.

  9. Telehealth equipment chaperone during exam with remotely located doctor

  10. State Prescription Drug Monitoring Program checks

  11. Assist with prescriptions and pharmacy authorizations

  12. Give instructions to patients as instructed by physician or physician assistant Electronic medical records file maintenance.Monitor for completeness and assist with obtaining missing data if record is incomplete

  13. Maintain medication and immunization records

  14. Screen and follow up on test results as directed by medical provider

  15. File paperwork

  16. Properly dispose of biohazardous materials

  17. Practice standard precautions

  18. Take telephone messages and provide feedback and answers to patient/physician/pharmacy calls

  19. Triage and process messages from patients and front office staff to physicians and medical providers

  20. Maintain all logs and required checks (i.e. refrigerator temperatures, emergency medications, expired medications, oxygen, cold sterilization fluid change, etc.)

  21. All other duties as assigned by supervisor

     

Qualification Requirements
 

Education

High school diploma; some college preferred

 

License/Certification

  1. Washington State Department of Health-issued medical assistant credential in accordance with RCW 18.360.050

  2. Must be able to pass a criminal background check. 

 

Skills

  1. Exceptional customer service and phone etiquette

  2. Ability to maintain effective and organized systems to ensure timely patient flow

  3. Ability to perform phlebotomy and administer injections

  4. Computer skills with basic knowledge of Microsoft Office and electronic medical records

Physical Requirements

  1. The employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear; frequently required to stand, walk and kneel; occasionally to climb balance, or stoop; rarely to crouch or crawl.

  2. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close, color and peripheral vision and the ability to adjust focus. The noise level in the work environment is moderate.
