Description

Job Summary

The Medical Provider’s primary responsibility is to evaluate patients’ opioid use disorder and prescribe and adjust appropriate opioid use disorder treatment medications as indicated. These include methadone, buprenorphine/naloxone, and naltrexone. The individual in this position shall be a licensed physician, nurse practitioner or physician assistant. The nature of this position is fast-paced in high-stress situations and conditions.

This position is a weekday early morning shift with some flexibility in the start and end time(s).  The day(s) are also flexible based on providers preference.

 

 

Job Functions (May Include):

  1. Conduct intake medical assessment and diagnosis and determine initial medication choice and dose.
  2. Conduct patient dose evaluations and change medications as indicated.
  3. Conduct thorough physical examinations of patients and make appropriate recommendations for follow-up.
  4. Document findings and decision-making about care in electronic health record.
  5. Draw blood for necessary laboratory testing and for pre- and post-test counseling where required.
  6. Facilitate appropriate communication and referrals with outside medical providers for needed care and follow-up.
  7. Evaluate, as necessary, patients with urgent or emergent medical needs and determine if further medical assistance is necessary (e.g., calling Aid Car).
  8. Write medical orders for all take-home privileges, seeking CSAT and DBHR exceptions as necessary.
  9. Other duties as assigned.

 

Qualification Requirements


Education

  1. Physicians are required to have an MD degree and an active physician license in the state of Washington. Nurse Practitioners shall be certified and licensed as a nurse practitioner in the state of Washington. Physician Assistants shall be licensed as a physician assistant in the state of Washington.

  2. All Medical Providers must also have Schedule II and below prescriptive authority from the State of Washington.

 

Experience

  1. Experience in drug abuse treatment is desired.

  2. Possession of a DATA-waiver for prescription of buprenorphine is desired but not required.

 

Additional Requirements

The position may require travel between proximate clinics under some circumstances. The exact schedule and time spent at each location may vary, depending on site needs.

 

Knowledge Requirements

  1. Must have knowledge of the patient population as well as the properties and side effects of opioid use disorder treatment medications and other drugs the patients may use.
  2. Must have knowledge of federal and state regulations governing the prescribing of opioid replacement medications and of regulations pertaining to health care of patients in treatment for drug abuse.
  3. Ability to prioritize workload, skilled in organizing detailed work assignments and follow through on assigned tasks to assure completion in a timely manner.
  4. Computer literate, with basic knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, and electronic medical records systems, as well as a high level of initiative in keeping current with technological change.
  5. Ability to handle multiple tasks and switch between tasks quickly.
  6. High integrity and ethical standards.
  7. Dependable, able to work under pressure; receptive to change, willingness to learn, cooperative approach to problem-solving
  8. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff (supervisory and subordinate), clients, and outside contacts from a wide variety of ethnic, socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds; good diplomatic skills; including strong conflict-resolution skills.
  9. Flexible team player, cooperative and uses excellent judgment.
  10. Excellent attention to detail, planning and analytical skills.
  11. Good basic clerical skills including typing, ability to proof own work, good grammar and spelling.
  12. Must be able to pass a criminal background check.

 

Language Skills

  1. Ability to read and interpret general business correspondence, policies and procedures, referral information, financial documentation and applicable government regulations.
  2. Ability to write business letters, uncomplicated reports, instructions and procedures.
  3. Ability to present information effectively and respond to questions from patients, staff, referral sources and the general public.

 

Mathematical Skills and Reasoning Ability

  1. Thorough knowledge of and ability to apply business arithmetic skills accurately and rapidly.
  2. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where standardization may be limited. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, schedule or diagram format.

Physical Requirements

  1. The employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear; frequently required to stand, walk and kneel; occasionally to climb balance, or stoop; rarely to crouch or crawl.
  2. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close, color and peripheral vision and the ability to adjust focus. The noise level in the work environment is moderate.


Equipment Used

  1. Computer, photocopier, fax machine, phone, and medical and dispensary equipment.
