**This position is specific to our main Seattle Clinic's Mobile Van Unit**
The Medical Provider’s primary responsibility is to evaluate patients’ opioid use disorder and prescribe and adjust appropriate opioid use disorder treatment medications as indicated. These include methadone, buprenorphine/naloxone, and naltrexone. The individual in this position shall be a licensed physician, nurse practitioner or physician assistant. The nature of this position is fast-paced in high-stress situations and conditions.
Job Functions (May Include):
- Conduct intake medical assessment and diagnosis and determine initial medication choice and dose.
- Conduct patient dose evaluations and change medications as indicated.
- Conduct thorough physical examinations of patients and make appropriate recommendations for follow-up.
- Document findings and decision-making about care in electronic health record.
- Draw blood for necessary laboratory testing and for pre- and post-test counseling where required.
- Facilitate appropriate communication and referrals with outside medical providers for needed care and follow-up.
- Evaluate, as necessary, patients with urgent or emergent medical needs and determine if further medical assistance is necessary (e.g., calling Aid Car).
- Write medical orders for all take-home privileges, seeking CSAT and DBHR exceptions as necessary.
- Other duties as assigned.
Physicians are required to have an MD degree and an active physician license in the state of Washington. Nurse Practitioners shall be certified and licensed as a nurse practitioner in the state of Washington. Physician Assistants shall be licensed as a physician assistant in the state of Washington.
All Medical Providers must also have Schedule II and below prescriptive authority from the State of Washington.
Experience in drug abuse treatment is desired.
Possession of a DATA-waiver for prescription of buprenorphine is desired but not required.
The position may require travel between proximate clinics under some circumstances. The exact schedule and time spent at each location may vary, depending on site needs.
- Must have knowledge of the patient population as well as the properties and side effects of opioid use disorder treatment medications and other drugs the patients may use.
- Must have knowledge of federal and state regulations governing the prescribing of opioid replacement medications and of regulations pertaining to health care of patients in treatment for drug abuse.
- Ability to prioritize workload, skilled in organizing detailed work assignments and follow through on assigned tasks to assure completion in a timely manner.
- Computer literate, with basic knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, and electronic medical records systems, as well as a high level of initiative in keeping current with technological change.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks and switch between tasks quickly.
