Job Summary:

The International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) seeks a qualified candidate to serve as a Senior Research Assistant in its Environment and Production Technology Division. This is a one-year, fixed-term, renewable appointment based in IFPRI’s South Asia Regional Office in New Delhi, India. Interested applicants must have work authorization to work in India.

The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting scholarly research in collaboration with the Cereal Systems Initiative for South Asia (CSISA). CSISA aims to decrease hunger and malnutrition and increase food security among resource-poor, small-scale farm families in South Asia. The initiative’s objective is to promote sustainable intensification of cereal cropping systems, largely through the accelerated development and inclusive deployment of new varieties, sustainable management practices and technologies, and pro-poor public policies. Focal areas for policy research in CSISA include seed systems and markets, scale-appropriate agricultural mechanization, fertilizer and soil nutrient management, and agricultural risk management. Additionally, the successful candidate will be expected to contribute to other research activities throughout South Asia.

 

Essential Duties:

Specific duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Organize, clean, process, and analyze household data sets and other quantitative data

  • Prepare tables, graphs, and other outputs for reports

  • Undertaking basic econometric analysis of household data

  • Assist in the preparation of project deliverables, presentations, briefs, and papers.

  • Conduct literature reviews and provide research assistance on agricultural and development policy issues

  • Other duties as assigned

     

    Required Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Economics, Agricultural Economics, Development Economics, Public Policy, or other relevant field.

  • Familiarity with agricultural and economic development issues in South Asia specifically related to poverty, natural resource management, economic growth, and food security

  • Familiarity with R, Stata, or other computer platforms for statistical analysis

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel

  • Fluency in written and spoken English

  • Fluency in at least one South Asian language – preferably Hindi

  • Willingness and ability to travel internationally as necessary

  • Demonstrated ability to work with minimal supervision

     

    Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with Computer Assisted Personal Interviewing (CAPI) software packages (ODK, CSPro, etc).

  • Knowledge of econometrics

  • Experience in survey design, questionnaire design, and conducting and supervising household surveys in developing countries

  • Demonstrated strong writing skills.

  • Ability to work well with multicultural and multi-disciplinary teams.
