The International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) seeks a Research Analyst I (RA) for one year, fixed-term, renewable appointment in its Markets, Trade, and Institutions Division. The RA will work as a part of the Macroeconomics and trade research theme and assist senior researchers in implementing data analysis and economic modeling activities with a focus on the sustainable development agenda. Responsibilities also include literature-based research and writing in order to produce papers, presentations, and other research products. This position is based in IFPRI Headquarters in Washington, D.C.

Essential Duties:

 Specific duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Assist with collection, categorization, documentation, and cleaning of primary data and secondary data from various sources, particularly for agricultural commodities, trade, and household level data.
  • Assist with economic modeling (partial equilibrium and/or computable general equilibrium models). On occasion, coding and modification of existing model code will be called for.
  • Work with the simulation outputs of models when needed and perform the compilation and write-up of results. Assist with the preparation of tables and graphs, visual presentations, discussion papers, and project research reports. 
  • Carry out literature reviews on topics related to agriculture, trade, and sustainable development as needed, and synthesize findings. 
  • Contribute to management of research projects and coordination with partners.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree and experience (3 years) or Master’s degree in Economics, Agricultural Economics, International Economics, or closely related field.  
  • Experience in data processing, analysis, and management, including manipulation of large datasets.
  • Working knowledge of either R, or Python
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and produce completed products on time.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work independently and in interdisciplinary and culturally diverse teams.
  • Ability to research highly technical topics in economics, and agricultural policy, and to learn new topics quickly.
  • Demonstrated ability to contribute to research papers with high degree of independence and creativity;
  • Proficiency in MS Word, Excel

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience analyzing household survey data
  • Fluency in written and spoken French
  • Proficiency in GAMS
  • Academic training on partial and/or general equilibrium modeling
  • Proficiency in tableau or other visualization software
