Description

PRIMARY FUNCTION: Responsible for cleaning building and grounds; performing grounds and building maintenance; tracking and maintaining inventory of supplies; overseeing all aspects of cremations.

 

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: Safety rules and regulations for self and others must be observed while carrying out all duties and responsibilities.  Additionally, all responsibilities must be carried out in accordance with company policies and applicable State and Federal Laws.

Janitorial/Maintenance

  • Sweep & mop all areas except animal holdings and clinic
  • Clean and sanitize all bathrooms
  • Clean break room
  • Empty all trash cans and replace liners, clean receptacles as necessary
  • Clean windows and windowsills
  • Maintain janitor equipment and area in a clean, organized and safe manner
  • Properly label bottles regarding dilution and use of all chemicals
  • Wax, buff and seal floors as needed
  • Maintain and track inventory of cleaning and toiletry supplies
  • Move furniture, equipment, supplies and tools as needed
  • Assist with set up of facilities for meetings, classrooms, conferences, events etc.
  • Clean grounds and parking lot of litter, glass, and other debris
  • May perform ground maintenance including snow removal, salting, mowing, weeding etc.
  • May perform general building maintenance as required

Crematory Duties

  • Provide high quality of service
  • Exercise patience and empathy when working with emotional or angry customers
  • Oversee all aspects of cremations: special cremations, mass cremations, cremator maintenance
  • Maintain log of cremator usage, also maintain cremation materials and inventory
  • Monitor and maintain cemetery and columbarium with End of Life Services Coordinator
  • Implement operation of cremator and train staff on operation
  • Maintain permit for operation of cremator
  • May perform euthanasia

 

QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential job duty satisfactorily.  The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required. (1)

 

      EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: One year of experience in the care and cleaning of buildings strongly preferred.  High school diploma or equivalent education strongly preferred. Valid driver's license and acceptable background check required.

 

      LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations.

     

CONTACTS: Frequent contact with staff.

     

TECHNICAL SKILLS/TOOLS: Possess beginner computer skills and have the ability to learn internal software. Able to perform work requiring use of various pieces of equipment and tools, such as, mop, dishwasher, washer and dryer, power washer and floor machine, and cleaning supplies.

     

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. (1)

 

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, sit walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, handle, feel, speak, hear and see.  Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds, carry 25+ pounds, and push and pull 50-100 pounds.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to dust, toxic or caustic chemicals, fumes or airborne particles.  Employee is occasionally required to work near moving mechanical parts, electrical wiring, and is occasionally exposed to outdoor weather conditions, extreme heat/cold/humid conditions, slick floor conditions, vibrations, animal dander and animal feces.  Some cleaning and storing is in elevated, potentially precarious locations. The employee may work in an area with high noise level, and potentially be subject to animal bites and scratches.
