Basic Function:

The position of Global Controller is responsible for managing the financial accounting organization across the Crane Merchandising Business Unit. The Controller is expected to provide leadership in the development and execution of accounting controls and processes to ensure the financials are in accordance with Crane Co. Policy and GAAP. This role will drive process improvement and harmonization across the different business locations and work with the corporate office and internal and external auditors to ensure policies and processes adhere to US GAAP and local GAAP as required. The job holder will ensure accounting data and financial statements are accurately prepared in a timely manner and provide insightful information on business performance.

 

This position is also expected to develop into a strong business partner with manufacturing, supply chain, engineering teams, and Vertical business team in addition to leading the accounting teams at all locations. This role will provide leadership in the areas of SOX & Compliance, cost accounting and analysis, and strategic cost optimization. Strong management and leadership skills are critical to achieving success as you will lead a diverse team in support of growing businesses. 

 

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Improve financial controls and ensure compliance with all applicable laws and regulations, including local.  He/she must formalize the development and training of company personnel to ensure Sarbanes Oxley, Crane Co. Policies and Internal Audit standards, government and local tax and legal reporting requirements are met.

  • Ensure all financial controls, policies, and processes are well documented, well communicated and well trained.  Support tools must be in place to ensure high transactional reporting accuracy.  The Controller is also the liaison with Crane Co. internal and external auditors.

  • Manage and coordinate the monthly close process in an efficient, accurate and timely manner.  Responsibilities also include accounts payable, fixed asset accounting, tax reporting and tax audits, certain treasury functions, payroll management for certain units, journal entry review, intercompany accounting, balance sheet account analysis and reconciliations.  All Crane Co. reporting deadlines must be met.

  • Drive process improvement and harmonization initiatives: process definition, accounting and reporting metrics, inventory controls, budgeting and forecasting, cycle count program and metrics.  Deliver internal financial reporting requirements on time.

  • Manage, direct, and develop finance staff.  Must set clear expectations and measurements.  Must be committed to the professional development of intellectual capital.

  • Build strong working relationships across the senior management team to enable interactive, proactive actions in all areas impacting the financial reporting and compliance.  Must have ability to form strong partner relationships across all functions impacting financial and managerial accounting.

  • Ensure the accuracy and integrity of the standard costing system and related sub-ledgers (i.e. perpetual inventory records).

  • Establish and maintain financial calculations and representations in expense and capital expenditure requests related to operations or new products. Establish, implement, and maintain policies, procedures, and instructions to safeguard the Business Unit assets, ensuring compliance with corporate policies and applicable laws and regulations.

  • Responsible for global cycle counts and inventory reconciliations.

  • Participate in the maintenance of the internal financial control environment ensuring accurate financial statements and safeguarding company assets.

  • Ensure locations are accountable for consistent practices and procedures and comply with corporate policies.

  • Develop group cash flow forecasting and reporting processes and ensure effective cash management.

  • Analyze and interpret gross margins, cost variances, inventory movements, and other accounting reports as they relate to cost.

     

    Qualifications and Required Skills:

  • Experienced leadership with 10 to 15 years of increasingly responsible positions, with proven track record of success in a global multi-location manufacturing company with increasing complexity.

  • Significant leadership experience and proven track record of success working in publicly traded companies is a requirement.

  • Public accounting experience and management of global finance teams is a requirement. 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting and CPA preferred.  MBA preferred. 

  • Demonstrated experience and track record of success in delivering process improvement, team building and financial system implementations. 

  • Demonstrated ability to build the team bench strength, develop and promote within the organization, and to drive positive change.

  • Technology savvy.  Strong computer literacy in Microsoft office applications.  Working knowledge of HFM a plus.  Working ERP system knowledge is a requirement.

  • Must have solid strong experience with Sarbanes Oxley and internal control compliance.
