We are looking for a supervisor to lead a group of software engineers for developing and maintaining the software used in medical devices developed by VPD. This person will also ensure that the software development group is working efficiently, up-to-date technically, and following best-practices for software development.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS : List the essential duties and responsibilities of the position, in order of importance and/or amount of time spent.

  • Supervise the group development effort for mission-critical software used in medical devices.

  • Hands on Supervisory experience required.

  • Supervise efforts related with software implementation, testing, documentation, quality control, product release and support.

  • Manage the budget, project schedule, recruiting, and innovation activities of the group.

  • Monitor, analyze, and communicate team performance in terms of quality and time to meet company goals.

  • Work with Project Management, Operations, and other departments of the company to determine engineering feasibility, cost effectiveness and development schedule for new and existing products.

  • Participate in meetings for analyzing technology trend, human resource needs, project plan, and market demand. Assist with the future directions/needs of product development.

  • Work with other Software managers to identify and adopt best practices for software development, including agile software development practices.

  • Work with peers from EMDD and SAS to promote alignment of software development tools, processes, and culture.

  • Lead and support initiatives in support of company values and goals

  • Support the regulatory process (i.e. FDA approval).

  • Will spend part of his/her time as a member of continuous improvement teams undertaking projects and seeking ways to improve the quality of KSI’s products and services.

  • Occasional travel to other KS facilities or customer sites may be required

  • Regular attendance is an essential job function.

  • Performs other related duties as assigned by supervisor

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES: What does a person in this position need to be able to do?

  1. Have strong experience in product-driven management/development for complex software project
  2. Have extensive experience with the whole life cycle of software production and cross-platform development
  3. Have extensive knowledge on developing medical device systems and the regulatory effort associated with it
  4. Have knowledge of DevOps and Continuous Delivery/Continuous Integration practices.
  5. Exhibit good business practices through use and support of company business systems.
  6. Have strong experience with agile software development methodologies
  7. Ability to lead and mentor software developers
  8. Have excellent writing and verbal skills
  9. Experience with C, C++ and object oriented methods.
  10. Knowledge of networking, network security, and Linux/RTOS.
  11. Knowledge of medical device quality system regulations and standards (eg, U.S. FDA Quality System Regulation 21CFR Part 820, ISO13485, ISO9001

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:  What is the usual educational background and work experience of an individual qualified to perform this job

  • Masters or Bachelor’s degree in computer science, electrical engineering, computational linguistics or other related fields.

  • Minimum 8 years of experience working in software development.

  • Minimum 5 years of experience working in medical device software development.

PHYSICAL & MENTAL REQUIREMENTS: What are the specific physical and mental demands of this position?

  • This position requires occasional lifting of test equipment such as a PC, monitor, camera, etc. up to approximately 30 pounds.

  • The employee will also need to be seated and work in front of a monitor for extended periods of time.
