Summary of Position:
As a Senior Scientist & Director of Corporate Development, you will have the opportunity to work at the frontier of retinal drug development and shape an incubated startup company. You will lead the identification, seeking and licensing efforts for new therapeutics for age-related macular degeneration (AMD) and diabetic retinopathy (DR). You will identify potential therapeutics for licensing and development within tech transfer departments at universities and through repurposing from pharma/biotech. You will then participate in guiding the non-clinical and clinical development of identified and acquired assets, including scenario planning for development options, fund raising/road shows, vendor evaluations and negotiations, regulatory and overall development strategy.
You will develop partnerships and business plans to grow this new company from the ground up.
Collaborate with Ora’s cross functional teams to incubate and build and a newly founded AMD and DR start up biotech company
Create a landscape map of the AMD and DR therapeutic space to identify target product profiles, gaps and opportunities
Analyze and interpret biological data to support the potential application of new drug targets
Reach out to tech transfer and licensing departments at universities and pharma/biotech to seek therapeutic assets that fit within the landscape map
Participate in asset evaluation by reviewing literature, MOAs, preclinical/clinical data, target product profiles, CMC and analyzing clinical trial data, summarizing competitive product reviews
Build discounted cash flow models for potential assets
Participate in the structure and negotiation of deals to acquire or develop partnerships for target assets
Assist with the management of private financings, including investor targeting, preparing presentations and models for investors, and organizing a ‘roadshow’ and investor/bank diligence
Develop financial and development plans for potential and acquired assets, including formulation/CMC, toxicology and clinical development planning for global product development. Map capital investments required for different project development scenarios.
Design, manage, and execute pharmacology and IND enabling studies
Identify and manage vendor selection, contract negotiation, design and development, user testing, adoption and change management, and stakeholder management.
To Land This Job, You Should Have:
A strong Retinal Biology research background and preferably a PhD in area of Retina Biology
An entrepreneurial spirit and an interest in rolling up your sleeves
A problem solver, creative and the ability to tackle problems head on
An understanding and passion for the drug development process, including knowledge of the regulatory requirements for IND enabling data/studies and general clinical development requirements
Licensing/deal structure knowledge or desire to learn
Excellent communication and organizational skills, including strong user skills in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint
The ability to work full-time in Andover, Massachusetts
Prior experience as an associate/junior analyst at an investment firm is a plus
