Portfolio Analyst, US Equity

Role Summary

This position will be responsible for providing portfolio management, analysis and implementation support for all portfolios managed by the US Equity Investment team, with a particular focus on Small Cap Equity. The Portfolio Analyst supports the Portfolio Managers (PMs) and investment team with all aspects of investment management, portfolio implementation, portfolio analysis, investment process and reporting functions. Duties include the following activities: working with the PMs to regularly monitor portfolios, establish preferred positioning and modelling and submitting portfolio updates to implementation teams; preparing regular and ad hoc performance commentaries, reports and analysis; working with investment team to build and improve overall investment process and investment outcomes; running and interpreting analytical software; running performance attribution,; working with internal technology teams to improve and support the team's infrastructure and related systems; ensuring that the portfolio adheres to investment guidelines and is managed within compliance; liaising with implementation and operations teams on account maintenance and set up needs. 

The responsibilities of the individual in this position include:

  • Support the PM team with all aspects of portfolio management including investment decisions, implementation, portfolio rebalances, transition events and daily monitoring of investment portfolios.
  • Run portfolio analysis, attribution reporting, performance analysis, ad-hoc reports, investment commentary and preparation of monthly/quarterly reporting.
  • Assist and participate in research projects and model development intended to validate and improve the investment process.
  • Liaise with internal technology teams to maintain and develop a scalable and robust infrastructure platform.
  • Help manage the documentation of processes and procedures.

The successful candidate will have extensive demonstrable skills and experiences including the following:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Economics, Statistics, Mathematics, or related technical field.
  • Interest in pursuing CFA, or progress towards charter preferred.
  • Minimum of 1-2 years working experience, which could include internships or other part time roles. Experience with or education about portfolio analysis, quantitative analysis, portfolio management, trading, investment operations or related investment experience would be helpful but is not required.
  • Some exposure to data and statistical oriented programming languages (such as any of these: c, python, r, SQL, etc) is required. Expertise in one or more of these languages is strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of quantitative investment practices, including portfolio optimization, is a plus.
  • Knowledge of global financial markets, portfolio management techniques, and investments.
  • Investment decision making skills; financial analysis; strategic and theoretical skills.
  • Advanced Excel skills.
  • Proficiency with FactSet and/or Bloomberg is a plus.
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure, and to work on different projects simultaneously. 
  • Knowledge of basic statistics.
  • Self starter who is able to prioritize workloads, operate under tight deadlines, and able to maintain poise under pressure.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Highly accurate and detail oriented.
  • Demonstrated ability to think on your feet and make good decisions.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, unassuming ego and desire to work in a team based environment.
