Sr. Systems Engineer, IT Security Operations


With direction from senior IT leadership and using independent judgment and discretion, this position proposes and designs security-related solutions as well as maintains the security posture of the corporate server infrastructure, including Active Directory, Windows/Linux operating systems, VSphere, related hardware and software. This includes designing significant enhancements and planning upgrades, patching, and vulnerability mitigation of a complex nature to operating systems and environments.


  • With significant latitude for independent judgment and discretion, this position performs complex design, implementation and maintenance activities with a security focus for the Windows server environment, Exchange messaging infrastructure, Active Directory, patch management, system monitoring and 3rd tier support for local and remote sites.
  • Responsible for supporting 3rd party and Internal audits based on PCI-DSS
  • Review, plan, and implement vulnerability remediation and mitigation recommendations.
  • Assist in managing and maintaining the security integrity of all IT systems and network architectures.
  • Apply knowledge of information security principles and practices.

Ensure systems are operated, maintained, and disposed of in accordance with internal security policies and practices outlined in the security plan.

  • Provide daily, ongoing security oversight of assigned systems as to the security impact of proposed modifications; additions, and technology refresh evolutions.
  • Evaluate and develop approach to solutions while proactively assessing items of risk and opportunities of vulnerability in the network.
  • Work directly with internal IT staff and customer to establish and enforce IT security best practices, protection objectives, process improvements and effective IT security controls.
  • Assist in IT security incident response and documentation.
  • Serves as a technical lead for project implementations, driving technical site escalations to conclusion and providing a leadership example to junior staff members.
  • Perform regularly scheduled security reviews (e.g., technology, operations and personnel).
  • Perform other duties as assigned or as necessary


  • Incumbents must have extensive working knowledge of systems administration and systems analysis methodologies, procedures, design and implementation. Good experience in research, analysis and implementation are essential.
  • Possess and maintain current knowledge of PCI-DSS.
  • A high level and in-depth knowledge of Windows server platforms, System patching/remediation, Active Directory and Information Security concepts is required. Previous experience with VMWare, HP hardware platforms, network Firewall concepts, Office 365, security/vulnerability management tools, and F5 Load Balancers is desirable.
  • Proven ability to lead and manage multiple projects simultaneously with associated deadlines is required. Good project management skills as well as written and verbal communication skills are necessary essential to effectively act in a technical lead role and serve as a reference and central point for technical issues across groups and business systems as described.
  • Strong technical skills and the ability to analyze information and evaluate results to choose the best solution and solve problems as described above are required. Independent discretion and initiative is required to the extent that incumbents can perform work of a complex nature with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to apply policies and procedures to solve everyday company issues. Critically understanding the Company’s operations, business drivers, systems, and values. Knowledge of information security principles and practices
  • Good communications and interpersonal skills are required to act as a reference and central point for technical issues across business units and product groups. The ability to interact effectively with team members and end users is required. A strong customer service orientation is essential.


Extensive knowledge of business systems design and engineering as normally obtained through the completion of a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or a closely related field. A MCSE and/or CCNA are preferred.
