POSITION TITLE

Director, Shared Services (Accounting) 

OVERVIEW AND REPORTING RELATIONSHIP

With oversight from executive finance and accounting leadership, this position supports VP, Shared Services in establishing and directing operations of the Company’s Financial Shared Service Center.  This position oversees high volume of transactions, reconciliation, analytics, dashboard reporting, internal controls and audit support. 

OTHER REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES

  • Gain in-depth understanding of the Company’s operation models, organization structure and proprietary technology platforms to be involved in architecture of the Financial Shared Services Center
  • Perform deep dive of process and gap analyses; understand and apply best practices; play a hands-on role in proposing and testing solutions
  • Establish and maintain operational procedures and controls; ensure compliance with US GAAP, SOX and other laws/regulations
  • Anticipate and ensure development and maintenance of robust, scalable shared service capabilities (processes, systems, internal controls, policies/procedures, organization and compliance) to support the company’s growth
  • Define and publish dashboard to assist management in decision making
  • Define shared service center success metrics and instill financial discipline; ensure that team understand, support and meet expected performance level, timely and accurately
  • Work closely with Corporate Controller and Internal Audit; ensure completeness and accuracy of documentation required for annual audits and quarterly reviews
  • Contribute to development of cross functional processes/and or structures that improve the efficiency and effectiveness of operations and financial reporting
  • Establish goals and priorities within the department. Mentor and develop a first class team.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Excellent technical knowledge of all accounting functional areas is required with a very strong understanding of GAAP and SEC and IRS reporting requirements, and solid understanding of and exposure to Sarbanes-Oxley Sections 302 and 404. This includes the ability to consider the relationship of the regulatory environment and the organization as well as the ability to apply the appropriate principles in business.
  • A keen awareness of trends, general direction and the regulatory environment entailed in the insurance benefits industry and the ability to consider those present and future relationships to the organization are critical. An extensive understanding of WageWorks’ business operations, products, technologies, selling strategies and internal business processes is required to perform the essential functions as described.
  • A high level of deductive reasoning, inductive reasoning, complex problem solving, critical thinking, and information analysis skills are essential to define problems, collect data, analyze available information and evaluate results to choose the best solution to solve problems. Must be able to make high impact decisions even at times when insufficient information is available.
  • Excellent organizational, leadership, communication, presentation and interpersonal skills are required to perform the functions as described. Incumbents must have the ability to navigate political arenas with ease as well as persuade and negotiate with others while projecting a professional image.
  • Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, human resources modeling, leadership techniques and coordination of people and resources in finance and accounting. The ability to encourage and build mutual trust, respect, and cooperation among team members is essential.

EDUCATION

A thorough knowledge and understanding of finance and accounting as normally obtained through the completion of a Bachelor’s Degree in Finance or Accounting. CPA certification is required.  MBA is preferred.

WORK EXPERIENCE OR RELATED EXPERIENCE:

The ability to effectively ensure the integrity and maintenance of the organization’s fiscal records, policies and procedures, as normally obtained through a minimum of fifteen years total accounting experience.

At least five or more years’ experience in managing supervisory and professional level staff is required, ideally with previous experience in controllership or shared services centers. 

Incumbents must have proficient skills and abilities with a personal computer and have a solid knowledge, understanding and experience with Microsoft Office Suite, specifically with Excel and Word. Additionally, NetSuite, Oracle 11i financials, or other enterprise resource planning software experience is strongly preferred.
