Heavy Truck / Equipment Technician I - Bus (Working Title: Transit Maintenance Technician): This position will perform skilled repair and diagnoses work in the maintenance and repair of heavy duty diesel and fixed route and express route buses.
Subject to Passing Substance Screening
This position is subject to passing a pre-employment substance screening. An applicant who fails to pass a required drug screening test shall be disqualified from employment in any class for a period of five years.
Diagnoses, maintains, overhauls and repairs Fixed/Express Route buses, including engine, transmission, chassis, wheelchair lifts/ramps, fare boxes and related Fixed/Express Route equipment
- Works with all diesels and hybrid electric powered heavy-duty buses and common types of equipment.
- Enters written communication via paperwork and the Maintenance Management Information System.
Minimum Qualifications: A High School Diploma or its equivalent and two (2) years of mechanical experience in automotive or heavy duty bus repair. NOTE: We may consider hiring a trainee that is currently enrolled or a recently graduated from an Automotive School/Program. The pay for a trainee would be $15.43. NOTE: Mechanic will be required to furnish basic tool set and box, as prescribed by the Transit / SCAT Department.
Preferred Qualifications: A.S.E. Automotive Service Excellence certifications preferred, but not required at time of hire (ASE - H4 Transit Brakes & ASE - H5 Transit Suspension & Steering). E.P.A. Section 608 & 609 certifications preferred, but not required at time of hire. SPECIAL NOTE: Must possess or obtain a valid Florida Class "B" Commercial Driver's License with a Passenger endorsement within six (6) months from date of hire.
Job Based Competencies: Knowledge of methods, materials and tools of automotive or heavy duty bus mechanic trade, operating and repair characteristics of automotive or heavy duty buses and related equipment, occupational hazards and safety precautions. Ability to determine work priorities, and ensure proper completion of work assignments, ability to accurately maintain records both manually and electronically. Ability to inspect equipment for adherence to safety standards. Ability to understand and apply applicable rules, regulations, policies and procedures.
Must occasionally lift and/or move more than 50 pounds and also push or pull heavy objects as necessary. May use a handling device (dolly, cart, etc.) or work with another team member to lift and/or move excessive poundage of more than 50 pounds. Individual must regularly bend, stretch, use arms, back and legs to perform job task requirements required to accomplish assigned duties.
Work Schedule: This position will be assigned to work a 10 hour shift, 4 days a week. Employees can be assigned to any of the following shifts: Morning Shifts: Sun-Weds 4:30 am to 3pm and Weds-Saturday 4:30 am to 3pm. Evening Shifts: Sun-Weds 2:30 pm to 1am and Weds- Sat 2:30 pm – 1am.
