Signal Electrician:Performs complex, highly skilled technical work in the installation, operations maintenance and repair of electrical traffic signal systems, especially Advanced Traffic Controllers (ATC). Also maintains and repairs street lights and all components related to the operation of these lighting systems.

This position is subject to passing a pre-employment substance screening. An applicant who fails to pass a required drug-screening test shall be disqualified from employment in any class for a period of five years.
Installs and maintains ground and aerial traffic signal equipment.
Performs traffic signal controller cabinet preventive maintenance and cleaning.
Installs, maintains & tests video equipment used to monitor traffic and detect vehicles.
Installs and maintains conduit & pull boxes.
Installs, maintains, repairs and operates all types of school flashers.
Test, services/repairs fiber optic and copper cable communication circuits.
Installs and maintains various types of electronic equipment.
Replaces and maintains street light installations.
Performs acceptance inspections of new traffic signal & street light installations.
Reads blue prints and wiring charts.
Ability to complete daily work orders and log books.
Reviews traffic operations project plans and makes recommendations.
Storm-related Function: Will be required to participate in recovery operations in the event of declared emergencies and disastrous events.
Minimum Qualifications: A High School Diploma or its equivalent and two (2) years with electronics and/or electrical devices. Possession of a valid Florida Driver's License. Must have or receive a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Class "B" License within six (6) months from date of hire - (will not pass probationary period if not completed). This position will require an IMSA Level I and II Certification within two (2) years of employment.
Preferred Qualifications: Possession of IMSA Certifications Level I & II or Journeymen Electrician and Work Zone Safety preferred. Prior electrical or electronic knowledge or training preferred.
Job Based Competencies:Knowledge of electrical equipment and wiring theories’ and/or electronic maintenance practices.
7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. This position will be required to work after normal operating hours on-call and work overtime. Schedule may vary pending on weather conditions and emergencies. May be required to work split shifts and rotating shifts. Individual selected for this position will be required to participate in recovery operations in the event of declared emergencies and disastrous events.
Must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Person may use a handling device such as dolly/cart or work with another person to move heavy items. This position works frequently in outdoor weather conditions and in high/precarious places. There are regularly fumes and/or airborne particles. There is occasional work with dangerous equipment with risk of electrical shock. Protective equipment is frequently worn.
