Signal Electrician (pending vacancy):This is skilled work in the maintenance and repair of traffic signalized lights, street lights, pedestrian crossing apparatus, radar speed signs and all components related to the operation and maintenance of lighting systems.

This position is subject to passing a pre-employment substance screening. An applicant who fails to pass a required drug-screening test shall be disqualified from employment in any class for a period of five years.
Installs, maintains and repairs traffic signals
Reads blue prints and wiring charts
Installs and maintains aerial traffic signal equipment
Performs traffic signal controller cabinet maintenance and cleaning
Repairs and replaces vehicle detectors & pedestrian detectors
Installs, maintains and tests video equipment used to monitor traffic and detect vehicles
Installs conduit above and below ground
Performs and tests traffic signal controllers
Installs, maintains, repairs and operates all types of school flashers
Installs, maintains, repairs and operates pedestrian crossing apparatus
Test, services/repairs fiber optic and copper cable communication circuits
Installs and maintains illuminate and non-illuminate aerial signs
Installs and maintains video equipment
Installs and maintains various types of electronic equipment
Maintains and repairs street lights
Reads blueprints and wiring charts
Replaces and maintains street light installations
Performs acceptance inspections of new traffic signal & street light installations
Performs locates of underground cables and facilities
Locates, marks with paint and flags, all underground conduits for street lighting, traffic signals an communications circuits
Operates and maintains camera truck
Installs, maintains and repairs remote traffic count equipment
Storm-related Function: Will be required to participate in recovery operations in the event of declared emergencies and disastrous events.
Minimum Qualifications: A High School Diploma or its equivalent and two (2) years with electronics and/or electrical devices. Classroom instruction in a related area may substitute for experience on a year-for-year basis. Possession of a valid Florida Driver's License. Must have or receive a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Class "B" License within six (6) months from date of hire - (will not pass probationary period if not completed). This position will require an IMSA Level I and II Certification within two (2) years of employment.
Preferred Qualifications: Possession of IMSA Certifications Level I & II or Journeymen Electrician and Work Zone Safety preferred. Prior electrical or electronic knowledge or training preferred.
Job Based Competencies:Capability to read wiring and blueprint documents.
Work Schedule: 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. This position will be required to work after normal operating hours on-call and work overtime. Schedule may vary pending on weather conditions and emergencies. May be required to work split shifts and rotating shifts. Individual selected for this position will be required to participate in recovery operations in the event of declared emergencies and disastrous events.
Physical Demands:Must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Person may use a handling device such as dolly/cart or work with another person to move heavy items. This position works frequently in outdoor weather conditions and in high/precarious places. There are regularly fumes and/or airborne particles. There is occasional work with dangerous equipment with risk of electrical shock. Protective equipment is frequently worn.
