Joint Terminal Attack Control (JTAC)/Joint Fires Observer (JFO) Course PROJECT LEAD    – All work performed in Fort Sill, OK or TDY locations

Potawatomi Training LLC is seeing qualified candidates to serve as a project lead for resident and mobile training team instructors for the JFOC instruction to multi-service and multinational students.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Project Leader for the JTAC/JFO Course of the U.S. Army Fires Center of Excellence and Fort Sill (USAFCOEFS). Responsible for the selection of qualified personnel to instruct the Fires Center of Excellence (FCoE) JTAC/JFO courses. Two (2) courses will be governed and administered by the JFO Program of Instruction (POI) (Army Training Requirements and Resources System (ATRRS) course number 2E-F233/250-ASIL7), including JFO resident and mobile training team (MTT) courses as required by the Government; and one (1) course shall be governed and administered by the Field Artillery Basic Officer Leader Course – Branch (FABOLC-B POI). An MTT requirement does not exist for the FABOLC-B.Evaluate students on JTAC and JFO tactics, techniques, and procedures (TTP) under field, simulated, and classroom conditions.  Team conducts the following:
    • Tailor individual training sessions to create situations requiring the student to perform techniques in areas of weakness
    • Train students on Close Air Support and Observed Fire Procedures, and Close Combat attack - using classroom, hands-on, simulation/virtual, field environment and exercises, combat scenario driven, and live fire in a realistic and safe environment
    • Conduct analysis, design/development, and review of the course of instruction, ensuring the JFOC Program of Instruction (POI) and lesson plans are relevant and current
    • Schedule on post ranges, oversee management and transportation of field logistical support, and supervise an observation post
    • Monitor, set-up, tear-down, stage for shipment, and operate a Call for Fire Trainer (CFFT) simulator, or future simulator replacement and coordinate for repairs


  • Army Basic Instructor Course or equivalent service school graduate preferred
  • Graduate of the one of the following courses required:
    • Joint Terminal Attack Controller (JTAC) Qualification Course
    • Forward Air Controller (Airborne) (FAC(A))
  • Graduate of the one of the following courses preferred:
    • Joint Fires Observer Course (JFOC)
    • Precision Strike Suite – Special Operations Forces (PSS-SOF)
  • Bachelor’s degree is a plus.


  • Knowledgeable in the operation and maintenance of the Call for Fire Trainer (CFFT) simulator and Deployable Virtual Training Environment (DVTE) simulator to include turning the simulator on and off, troubleshooting the simulator and creating, loading and changing training scenarios
  • 3 years verifiable operational experience as a JTAC or FAC(A)*
  • Well-developed briefing skills required.  Ability to clearly present technical approaches and findings. Must be capable of instructing current tactics, techniques and procedures involved with Close Air Support.
  • Recent combat experience desired
  • Simulation/simulator experience preferred
  • Joint level communications, intelligence, Fires TTPs, and Joint Targeting
  • Instructors shall read, write, speak, and understand the English language fluently and maintain good communication skills with cadre and students.

*Operational Experience:Operational experience is defined as three years at an operational unit while performing JTAC or FAC(A) duties. This time shall be active time. If claiming Guard, Reserve or other time, the total drill time shall equal 3 years. Three years at a Guard or Reserve unit drilling one weekend a month and two weeks per year does not meet this requirement.

*Combined Experience:In lieu of 3 years verifiable JTAC/FAC(A) experience, a combination of 8 years of Active Military service can be combined with a minimum of 2 years of Operational JTAC/FAC(A) experience to satisfy the experience requirement. Acceptance of combined experience will be on a case by case basis at the discretion of the Government.

Selected candidates will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information.

Selected candidates must be able to obtain and maintain a United States Passport.
