Archeological Technician

1Prospect Technologies is seeking an Archeological Technician to work with the MTARNG and Construction and Facilities Management Office (CFMO) on cultural resource projects to help ensure the MTARNG and Department of Military Affairs (DMA) obligation to cultural resource and preservation management is met. Knowledge of military culture and experience collaborating with Department of Defense (DOD) entities to integrate resources, plan, and deliver comprehensive services is required.

Duties and Reponsibilities

  • Update the MTARNG’s Integrated Cultural Resources Management Plan (ICRMP) to the new standardized National Guard Bureau (NGB) template

  • Coordinate the review of the ICRMP including consulting with both federally and state of Montana recognized American Indian tribes, Montana State Historic Preservation Office (MT SHPO), MTARNG and NG

  • Complete a thorough review of the all current Historic Property Records (HPR) for state and federally owned assets statewide

  • Oversee submission of HPRs and shapefiles to MT SHPO

  • Coordinate with DMA Geographical Information Services (GIS) to develop shapefiles for assets

  • Coordinate with CFMO personnel to update real property databases where needed

  • Develop, maintain, manage, and organize a cultural resources data and associated files for DMA and MTARNG

  • Develop a Preservation Plan/Maintenance and Treatment Plan (PP/MTP) for the Fort Harrison Historic District

  • Support assignments and roles in strengthening relationships with the Federally Recognized Tribes

  • Support, develop, and participate in annual Government-to-Government Tribal Consultation Meeting

  • Assess cultural resource impacts by reviewing work orders, construction activities, and proposed undertakings in various stages of development

  • Review any existing and all past Memorandum of Agreements (MOAs) that have been developed among the DMA, MTARNG, and MT SHPO

  • Identify areas that are considered “sensitive” and off limits for training activities.

  • Coordinate shapefiles with DMA GIS

  • Complete HPRs for state and federally owned assets

  • Other duties as assigned.




  • Master's Degree in Architectural History, Historical Architecture, Historic Preservation, Anthropology with Archaeology focus or related field



  • Have a minimum of three (3) years’ experience in cultural resource management and field inventory investigations

  • Recognized by the Department of the Interior as a qualified professional archaeologist or qualified professional architectural historian

  • Listed on the Registry of Professional Archaeologists (RPA).
