We are seeking an experienced Fabrics Development Specialist for our First Quality Tissue, SE facility located in Anderson, SC. This position will be primarily responsible for paper machine fabric service and development. Also, involves fabric testing and tracking during operation and use, fabric inspection during machine stops and outages, and implementation of best practice learnings across all assets including fabric installation procedure. Also, includes fabric process troubleshooting and execution of fabric continuous improvement trials. Backup responsibility for fabric end of life testing. Requires excellent interaction and communication with PD and Operations teams and systematic data analysis, storage, and report writing. Also involves some travel to sister production sites (i.e., Lock Haven, PA) and to development partner sites for fabric inspections and development activities.
Primary responsibilities include:
Fabric tracking and test measurements during operation through lifetime. (i.e., stretch jack position, tension, sheet moisture profile, fabric temperature, moisture content)
Fabric and related machine equipment inspections during machine stops and outages. (i.e., fabric wear condition – seam and body, air permeability, caliper, edge condition, vacuum box ceramic wear conditions)
Used fabric sample collection, labeling, storage, and filing.
Consolidate and share fabric best practice learnings semi-annually in training sessions on both sites (i.e., special fabric events, fabric installation procedure, reel belt seaming, fabric edge trimming and sealing)
Backup role in fabric inventory and orders
Contribute to investigation of failed fabrics.
Participate in weekly fabric development meetings with vendor partners. Site visits for new trial fabric inspections
Support and lead certain continuous improvement fabric development trials
Backup role in testing and analysis of used fabrics
Contribute to fabric testing for new patent developments
The ideal candidate should possess the following:
A 4-year Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering or related engineering curriculum or 5 years or more of tissue paper manufacturing experience
Paper Machine operational experience, particularly TAD papermaking
Knowledgeable with regard to industrial safety hazards and requirements
Hands on experience with analytical test devices and measurements desired
Good analytical/troubleshooting skills.
Should have strong work ethic and be a self-starter with minimal supervision.
Attention to detail required.
Focus on getting results in a timely manner.
Creative and innovative spirit, not afraid to try or fail to gain learning for development
Good computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office applications such as Excel.
Excellent resource management for PD project completion
