Context: Provides administrative and clerical support to the legal program
Scope: Working under general supervision, the Administrative Assistant is responsible for a variety of administrative and secretarial duties. The AA will also provide general office support as directed.
Performs administrative support and secretarial duties including, but not limited to:
Word-processing letters, reports, documents, and correspondence.
Photocopying and filing.
Answering and screening telephone calls; retrieving messages from voice mail.
Opening, routing and responding to correspondence.
Making appointments, travel arrangements and maintaining files.
Arranges for outside services (i.e., printing, repair of office equipment, etc.).
Performs special projects and reports as requested.
Pays bills and processes expense reports. Ensures timely submission of time reports by regional staff.
Recruits and oversees the work of interns
Maintains mailing lists/databases and processes office mail.
Assists with mailings/faxes, etc.
Performs miscellaneous duties as directed.
Standard Overtime: This position may occasionally require overtime for unanticipated events and will rarely exceed 5 hours a month in those instances.
Knowledge & Skills:
Good written and oral communication skills
1-2 years general office experience
Excellent word processing and database skills including experience designing, implementing and maintaining basic document formats and ability to type 60 wpm
Demonstrated good organizational and problem-solving skills
Demonstrated familiarity with current environmental issues
Ability to deal tactfully and effectively with staff, volunteers and the public.
This position is represented by a collective bargaining unit and is subject to the terms and conditions of the contract between Sierra Club and Sierra Employee Alliance.
