The Y’s board and staff are passionate about supporting its community in many ways, and the Y has increased its visibility and presence in the region through focused outreach work in recent years. Since 2017, the Y has re-positioned itself as a community impact organization, so it can more purposefully partner with Monadnock Region citizens to address their most significant social challenges, from addiction to childhood trauma. It has embedded community impact across its philanthropic culture, so Y supporters understand the impact their donor dollar has on the lives of all who live here. Its most recent impact event underscored the Y’s commitment to being one of the most diverse and inclusive organizations in the region.
The Y’s main facility is a new, large, state-of-the-art, purpose-built center that is accessible to all for recreation programs and community gathering. Its current CEO is retiring after 7 years in the position, and the Y is looking for its next dynamic and strong leader.
The board seeks an experienced professional who has the requisite background and skills to achieve excellence in the following areas:
Advocate the Vision of the YMCA and Serve as the Heart and Soul of the Operation: 
Strengthen a culture of inclusion, engagement, character, ownership and life-long learning within the YMCA organization that reinforces, encourages, and promotes values of honesty, respect, responsibility, and caring. Act as a highly visible ambassador for the mission, cause, and vision for the YMCA within the community, with the ability to develop and cultivate relationships with key stakeholders. Play a significant role in supporting and implementing financial development and stewardship strategies. Directly involved and comfortable with key donor contact, cultivation and solicitation.
Build and Lead the Staff Team: 
Ensure strong leadership, support, and communication with and among staff. Encourage the team by creating a spirit of camaraderie and sense of mission/purpose. Ensure a solid focus on staff development, helping all to thrive in their positions. Motivate, nurture, retain, and hold staff accountable for key objectives. 
Implement a Strategic Plan: 
Work effectively with volunteers and key staff to update our strategic roadmap with a set of impact statements and strategies that address the needs of this Y and its communities. Ensure the Y stays on the leading edge of membership and program innovation and impact and that the Y follows through on its primary goals and objectives.
Strengthen Operating Performance/Fiscal Management: 
Engage the board and key staff to develop an annual tactical plan for achieving key Y financial goals and objectives. Use a high level of analysis to forecast financial trends, growth and stability, while consistently leading organization to balance or surplus operations by growing earned revenue and contributions and controlling costs. 
Salary Range: $95,000-$115,000   
Benefits:  80% of health care benefits costs provided per the personnel policy (additional details share with final candidates). YMCA contributes 5% retirement contribution and employee contributes 3% per eligibility requirements (www.yretirement.org). 
Residency Expectation: Must reside within the Keene Family YMCA service area (specifics on page 3).
Minimum Candidate Criteria:
1. Accredited 4-year college degree (required/non-negotiable); advanced education degree preferred.
2. Minimum five years prior experience in a senior management role with a YMCA or related experience at a comparable organization/company.
3. Proven successful track record of fiscal management for a complex organization with a budget of more than $2M annually.
4. Demonstrated ability to develop and strengthen community relationships.
5. Proven ability to develop new programs, review and enhance programs being offered and effective in broadening engagement in the community.
6. Demonstrated excellent leadership and communication skills (both written and verbal) as well as personal values consistent with the YMCA mission.
7. Successful annual fundraising experience and a commitment to be highly engaged in providing leadership and support for financial development efforts
8. YMCA Organizational Leader Certification (Note: Candidates not in possession of this certification have up to three years to obtain through Y-USA).
Mission Statement: We serve all people through programs and services that build spirit, mind and body with a focus on Youth Development, Healthy Living and Social Responsibility.  
Brief History: What began as a small religious study group in 1885 has grown to an organization of over 6,000 members. The first meeting was at 29 West Street on the 4th floor of Lamson Hall, which became the first YMCA building. That building was dedicated in 1893. The Takodah YMCA and the Keene Family YMCA were one Y from 1929 to 1958. In September 1958, the Y moved to 38 Roxbury Street, the former Odd Fellows building. It was expanded in 1978 and then again in 1985 with a fitness center. Following a very successful campaign, the YMCA moved to its current location at 200 Summit Rd in December 2011.
Service Area & Demographics: The Y service area is Cheshire County with the exclusion of the town of Walpole, North Walpole and Alstead (three towns that are part of the Meeting Waters YMCA service area). Cheshire County is located in the southwestern portion of the state of New Hampshire. The 2017 population estimate for Cheshire County is 76,320 with a median age of 42.2. Keene’s population is 23,265.  The median income household income is $58,359. The population of Cheshire County is 94.6% Caucasian, 1.48% Hispanic and 3.92% other. The median property value in Cheshire County is $187,300.

Volunteer Leadership: 14 Board Members. Additionally, over 260 volunteers are engaged annually to help the Y deliver on its mission.  
Staff: 40 full-time and 129 part-time. Direct reports to CEO include: HR/Finance Director, Director of Child Care Services, Wellness Director, Facility Director, Marketing Director and Community Impact/Development Director.
Membership: There are 5922 full privileged members with 2167 units consisting of Youth (320/15%), Teens (76/4%), Young Adults (241/11%), Adults (603/28%), Adult Couple (265/12%), Families (502/23%), Single Parent Families (160/7%). 
Programs: The Y offers a wide range of programs, including Group Exercise; Adult Sports; Preschool Sports; Off-Site and On-Site School-Age Child Care; Child Care for 6 weeks to 5 years; Gymnastics; Aquatics; Child Watch; Martial Arts; Rock Climbing; Racquetball and Squash; Health and Wellness; Camps; and Teen Programs. The Y’s swim team currently has 55 participants; there are 162 children in infant-pre K programs; 95 in school-age child care; and 474 summer day camp slots were filled last summer.
The Keene Family Y also runs Diabetes Prevention Program; Tai Ji Quan Moving for Better Balance (part of a National study and has just been refunded for another two years); INSHAPE Program (just recognized by SAMSA as one of only two programs that are recommended for engaging people with a Mental illness in Healthy lifestyle change and was the first Y in the country to adopt the program and the training model for all Ys partnering with their Community Mental Health Centers to run the program across the country, nearing 100 locations); and Activity is Good Medicine (a partnership between the Y and Cheshire Medical Center). 
Financial Position: Forecasted revenue in 2018 is $3,766,000 with a net operating loss of $157,000.  2018 net loss includes $490,000 in non-cash depreciation charges, with forecasted long-term future average annual capital replacement expenditures between $130,000 and $170,000. Current capital expenditures are minimal, but cash for future capital expenditures needs to be set aside. Outstanding debt related to 2012 new facility construction loan is $3,650,000. Annual debt service costs of $225,000 is split between principal payments and interest. There is an active plan to reduce or retire the outstanding debt. For the past five years the YMCA has operated at a break-even level on a cash basis which includes modest funds set aside for future capital or operating needs. The YMCA has cash reserves of $225,000, designated capital reserves of $218,000 and long-term invested assets of $439,000.
Annual Fundraising & Financial Assistance Awarded: With a 2018 goal of raising $166,025, volunteers and staff have raised $200,000 YTD. In 2018, the Y anticipates awarding over $309,000 in financial awards and subsidies. 
Keene is a quintessential New England town and is the home to Keene State College and Antioch University New England. For the outdoor enthusiast, you can find a wide range of sports and activities including fishing, hunting, hiking, canoeing, skiing and much more. Keene is in the Mount Monadnock region providing many hiking opportunities. Lakes and rivers abound in NH. The arts are well represented through the Colonial Theater located in Keene and the Peterborough Players Professional Theater located in Peterborough NH. Keene has a thriving downtown, which features a variety of restaurants. Less than a 2-hour drive to Boston.
