REPORTING TO:  Senior Executive, IMP Group

Welcome to Oak Island Resort & Conference Centre - Atlantic Canada's first resort, spa and convention centre facility. Far away from the everyday, but only 45 minutes from Halifax!

Nestled on the picturesque South Shore of Nova Scotia, Oak Island Resort & Conference Centre offers breathtaking views of Mahone Bay and the legendary Oak Island.  The property offers 107 guest rooms, 11 oceanfront chalets, seaside villas and spa.  Amenities include conference space, licensed dining room, marina and recreation.    

We are searching for a dynamic General Manager to join and lead our team.

Responsible for managing and overseeing Oak Island Resort & Conference Centre, the General Manager functions as the primary strategic business leader of the property. With responsibility for all departments and functions of the hotel, the General Manager must have a solid performance record in the hospitality industry.

RESPONSIBILITIES (including, but not limited to):

  • Maximize financial performance through implementation of sales and marketing plans, revenue management and optimizing cost control initiatives

  • Provide input and oversight in the creation of operating and capital budgets

  • Participate in the development of the hotel’s sales and marketing plans

  • Lead the property’s strategic planning process and facilitate input from all stakeholders to create a comprehensive business plan

  • Establish and communicate objectives for the management team to ensure alignment with the strategic plan and the brand mission and standards

  • Lead, motivate and support all departments in the achievement of their financial and operational targets through effective organizational development, policy and procedure development and professional development training

  • Attract, hire, and retain management team members who deliver on key objectives

  • Foster positive employee engagement through regular employee update, feedback and recognition initiatives

  • Ensure compliance with all health and safety standards and regulatory requirements

  • Represent Oak Island Resort & Conference Centre at community and industry events

  • Present quarterly and ad hoc business updates to IMP Senior Executives

  • Perform other duties as assigned by IMP Senior Executives

EXPERIENCE, SKILLS & EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree required, preferably in Hotel/Restaurant or Business Administration

  • Certified Hotel Administrator (CHA) designation is preferred

  • Minimum of 8 years previous General Manager experience

  • Exceptional interpersonal, presentation and guest relation skills are essential

  • Self-confident, proactive leadership style with the ability to prioritize and make effective decisions in a fast paced environment

  • In depth knowledge of budgeting, forecasting and revenue management

  • Ability to communicate in both official languages would be considered an asset
