DOG ATTENDANT


Description

Virginia Woof is Portland’s only nonprofit dog daycare center, owned and operated by Outside In. Dog Attendants are responsible for the safety and cleanliness of the dog area while managing a group of up to 50 dogs. Dog Attendants should be available for any work shift, or at least provide the manager with an accurate schedule of availability. On-Call Dog Attendants serve as Virginia Woof’s primary resources for covering holidays and weekends. Training may include front desk responsibilities.

This position is on-call, but shifts are often scheduled in advance. Shifts begin as early as 6:30 a.m. and run as late as 7 p.m.  Being available at 6:30 a.m. is a requirement for this position. The pay is $11.50/hr. On-Call Dog Attendants may work 10-20 hours weekly. The application deadline is 8/7/2017.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the welfare of the dogs. 
  • Assist in maintaining a clean, safe and sanitary facility.
  • Effectively manage a large group of dogs while following protocols.
  • Assist with front desk coverage as needed.
  • Provide on-the-job training to the youth workers as needed.
  • Adhere to operational and fiscal procedures.
  • Ensure excellent customer service.
  • Other tasks as needed. 

Qualifications

  • 1-2 yrs of related animal experience or background. 
  • 1-2 yrs of direct customer service.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Basic office skills (typing, computer, phone and office equipment).
  • Strong desire to work with dogs and openness and ability to further education based on Virginia Woof philosophies.
  • Must be able to stand for long periods of time and have the ability to bend, lift and move quickly when needed.
  • Excellent problem solving and conflict resolution skills.
  • Self-motivated.
