Description

JOB SUMMARY:

Manage Entry Level & Lateral Recruitment programs for the Boston office, including the efficient and effective management of all aspects of activities related to the recruiting and hiring of entry level lawyers, the summer associate program, and the recruiting and hiring of lateral lawyers and career associates.  In addition, manage specific key transitions for incoming attorneys, including new associate orientation.  This role collaborates with the other Legal Recruiting Managers, who have responsibility for the distinct geographical regions, as well as Legal Personnel and Global Mobility managers.  The Legal Personnel and Recruiting Manager reports directly to the Senior Director of Legal Personnel, Recruiting and Global Mobility and works closely with the firm’s hiring partner, as well as other partners actively involved in recruiting initiatives and key attorney transitions.  The role requires a focus on people-management, continuous process improvement and the ability to engage in close collaboration with attorneys and other administrative departments both inside and outside of Human Resources.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Manage Legal Recruiting team in Boston effectively to emphasize high performance, continuous improvement and collaboration with other departments outside of HR.  Coach, mentor, and develop staff, including overseeing new employee onboarding and providing career development planning and opportunities.  Delegate responsibility and expect accountability.  Provide effective feedback on a regular basis in addition to managing the annual performance reviews.  Work closely with the Legal Recruiting Managers in other geographical regions to coordinate and synchronize cohesive approach.
  2. Oversee new associate orientation process for all US offices.        
  3. Working with the Manager of Legal Recruiting – Team Lead, manage lateral, technical advisor and career associate hiring and onboarding processes for the Boston office. 
  4. Oversee the management of the firm’s summer associate program, including social events, trainings, surveys, and evaluations. Work closely with other managers, senior recruiting coordinator and the other recruitment coordinators to ensure program initiatives are carried out successfully and on budget.
  5. In collaboration with and oversight from the Manager of Legal Personnel and Global Mobility – Team Lead, collaborate on key transitions for all incoming attorneys and manage processes, such as relocations, assignments, and office transitions.
  6. Manage law schools relationships for Boston area school, as well as others requested by the Senior Director.
  7. Benchmark, formulate, administer and maintain recruiting policies, operational procedures and practices consistent with the goals and objectives of the firm, including meeting firm’s diversity hiring goals. 
  8. Foster a spirit of teamwork and unity among staff; lead team to meet the firm’s expectations for productivity, quality and goal accomplishment.
  9. Perform additional duties as assigned by the Senior Director of Legal Personnel, Recruiting and Global Mobility.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • 7+ years recruiting and/or personnel experience, preferably in a law firm or professional services firm
  • Proficiency in the use of computer programs including Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel) and database programs (e.g., LawCruit)
  • Excellent written and oral communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills

WORKING CONDITIONS:

This is an exempt position.  Incumbent is expected to work the hours necessary to fulfill the responsibilities of the position.  Some travel may be required.
