Job Title:  Air Quality Control Manager

Position Overview: To comply with the reorganization of the AMC Sustainability department, a position for management of all Air quality compliance efforts within ASARCO and Minera Mexico Sonora operations.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Perform regulatory analysis of proposed air quality regulations, assess impacts to ASARCO
  • Oversee and administer contracts for air pollution control equipment installations, air modelling projects and air quality studies
  • Lead the air quality portion of environmental compliance audits and assist with action plan development
  • Advise ASARCO and Sonora environmental staff on best practices in emission controls
  • Develop environmental management standards for ASARCO and Sonora
  • Advise upper management on liabilities and manage risk pertaining to air quality compliance
  • Oversee large air quality permitting efforts for major expansions
  • Maintain corporate environmental standards, policies and procedures

Other Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Prepare reports for management
  • Advise other departments within ASARCO and AMC on air quality compliance
  • Consult with legal counsel on air quality matters
  • Participate in industry organizations

Knowledge and Skills:

  • 15 years experience in environmental engineering or related field
  • 5 years experience in mining industry (preferred)
  • Comprehensive knowledge of air quality laws and policies
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish (preferred)

Education and Training

  • Bachelor of Science in environmental engineering or related field
  • Master of Science in environmental engineering or related field (preferred)
  • Licensed professional engineer in the State of Arizona (preferred)

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Ability to manage projects, knowledge of contract administration

Cost Accountability

  • Accountable for large Capex projects related to air quality.
  • Ability to budget and manage costs related to air quality compliance

Extent of Public Contact

  • No interface with media
  • Participate in industry organizations
  • Give talks to local business organizations

Working Conditions and Environment

  • Work in an office environment with occasional visits to outdoor projects
  • Driver's license and ability to travel to Mexico, Texas and Arizona locations

Physical Demands

  • Travel required (40%)
