Chemist II – Silver Bell


Responsible for safety, environmental compliance, production, costs, quality, people and projects in the Silver Bell Laboratory.



  • Provide safety leadership in the Laboratory/SXEW Department.

  • Know, understand and enforce all applicable local, state and federal health and safety regulations.

  • Help insure environmental compliance in the Laboratory/SXEW Department.

  • Plan and control daily analytical work to effectively utilize resources.

  • Effectively and efficiently manage and report data.

  • Responsible for all aspects of quality, including cathode quality, internal and external customer satisfaction, quality processes/procedures, quality equipment/tools/supplies and quality people.

  • Order parts, material, supplies and equipment to insure continuous operation.

  • Help meet and maintain copper cathode production targets at Silver Bell.

  • Direct and support the activities of direct reports, which includes two chemists and an hourly Sampler.

  • Develop/train/educate employees for future growth and promotion.

  • Work in partnership with the SXEW Operations Department, the Mine, the Laboratory, and all other Silver Bell Departments to optimize safety, environmental compliance, production, costs, and quality.

  • Work in partnership with the Union to insure effective and efficient plant operation.

  • Help develop and implement capital and operating projects to improve the SXEW Operation/Silver Bell/Company performance.

  • Provide technical support to the Silver Bell staff, as needed.

  • Effectively administer Department and Company policies and procedures.



  • Must have technical knowledge of mining, leaching, solvent extraction and electrowinning processes.

  • Must be proficient in all production laboratory techniques for blasthole analysis, and aqueous SXEW sample analyses.

  • Must demonstrate the highest commitment to health and safety.

  • Must demonstrate the highest commitment to environmental compliance.

  • Must demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills with employees, other supervisors and managers.

  • Must be able to effectively manage projects.

  • Must have valid driver’s license.

  • Must have excellent computer skills.



  • Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry or related field

  • Three (3) years supervisory experience

  • Five (5) years of experience working in a production laboratory environment.
