Supervise and lead the crew mine supervisors, represented employees, oversight of all mine operations, interact with other departments to ensure company goals and key performance indicators are met.
Facilitate and implement the Mine Department’s “Operational Excellence Program” across and through the ranks of the department. This individual will be tasked with the institutionalizing and sustaining of this initiative.
Chief supervisor will be responsible for the management and dissemination of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and other reporting for his respective area of responsibility. (Equipment, production, drilling, blasting, and environmental).
Achieve forecasted tonnages, copper grade, and drilling/blasting requirements are met.
Interact with Mill Operations, Engineering, Maintenance, and other departments “as necessary” to assure the monthly mining plan is executed in the most efficient way possible.
Coach and mentor salary personnel in the work group – ensure personnel is being developed and advanced to ensure department continuity and successorship.
Provide and support mentoring, coaching, and counseling efforts to supervisors to increase awareness and ensure the team is operating effectively and at peak productivity; and instill a mindset of lowest cost considerations, proper equipment operating techniques, labor agreement issues, and federal and state safety regulations.
Ensure project work is completed on time to meet Company goals.
Actively mentor and train subordinate supervisors (Supervisor I – III) to obtain necessary skills to improve and develop their performance over time.
Ensure required production goals are achieved at the lowest possible cost without sacrificing safety or environmental concerns.
Assure all timekeeping, production, and safety paperwork for all crews is completed correctly and on-time.
Facilitate daily crew line-out and safety meetings.
Ensure that all mine equipment is operated in the most productive and cost-effective manner, without sacrificing the safety and health of employees.
Communicate goals and key performance indicators to subordinate supervisors and employees and monitor their development in accomplishing these goals.
Administer overtime and absenteeism in accordance with Collective Bargaining Agreement and/or other policies.
Administer work procedures, corrective action, accountability, department policies, and CBA language.
Interact with workforce and Human Resources, Safety, Purchasing, Accounting, etc. to ensure compliance with established company policies.
Input work orders into SAP for loading and mobile equipment deficiencies or repairs.
Administer and interface with the Modular Dispatch 6 fleet management (FMS) and Provision 3 system regularly and as assigned during scheduled shifts.
Monitor and interact with the pit slope stability monitoring system to ensure the safety of the workforce, equipment, and to ensure the safe extraction of material from the ore body.
Complete project work as directed by upper management.
Provide fill-in coverage for General/Senior Supervisor on an “as needed” basis.
Complete annual performance reviews of subordinate supervisors as required.
Report to General Operations supervisor and Mine Manager.
First-aid certification preferred and maintained.
Other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Proficient with Microsoft Office with skills in Word, Outlook and Excel.
Excellent planning, problem solving, decision making, organizational and interpersonal skills required.
Ability to work well as a team member and demonstrate safety leadership required.
Applicant must have good communications skills (oral and written).
Must be able to manage time effectively and set priorities.
Requires the ability to manage multiple tasks.
Applicant must be able to function in a fast paced, and elevated stress environment.
Knowledge of SAP/Kronos software is a plus.
Excellent interpersonal and leadership skills.
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
Ability to write and populate routine reports and correspondence.
Ability to read and interpret topo maps, implement and follow mining plans, and schedules produced by technical services group.
This position will require that the individual be able to work in a 12 hour rotating shift work environment, and will require the supervisor arrive at least one hour prior to the start of their shift to conduct turnover with the on shift supervisors and/or management.
Ability to work in an environment of extreme heat and temperature changes during the summer months.
ENVIRONMENTAL, HEALTH & SAFETY
The job requires training or instruction in the area of environmental awareness and workplace hazard recognition.
This job requires training or instruction in the area of Safety & Health awareness including completion of the appropriate MSHA training.
Required participation in the ASARCO Total Safety Culture Program
Able to obtain ATF clearance.
Ability to climb stairs, ladders and other vehicle access methods on a regular basis. Ability to walk over rough terrain on a regular basis. Ability to don and use personal protective equipment.
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Bachelor’s degree in Mining, Geological, or Mechanical Engineering with a minimum of 5-years of open pit mining experience with 2-years of supervisory experience (preferred) or;
H.S. diploma with 5 years operational supervisory experience and minimum of 10 years of operational experience in a mining environment.
Working conditions include heavy industrial environment. Conditions include extreme temperature conditions, both hot and cold; in and/or around wet environments; walking on slippery and/or uneven surfaces, working in confined spaces; climbing stairs/ladders; walking over rough terrain; and working at heights.
Will have exposure to noise, vibrations, dust, chemicals, also will work alone with minimum supervision.
