Position Summary
 The Banquet Captain will supervise and assist in the service of banquet functions.  Serve guests in a friendly, professional manner according to hotel standards working under the direction of the Banquet Manager.  Prepare all pertaining paperwork.
 
Service Standards:
• Eye contact should be made at a distance of no less than 10 feet from every guest
• A genuine smile should be offered at a distance of no less than 5 feet from every guest
• Employees should build rapport with guests during any conversation, if the guest responds to the initial statement with a conversational demeanor
• Guest last name is used effectively, but discreetly, as a signal of recognition as least once and not more than twice during any conversation with guests
• Before concluding conversations, the guest is verbally offered additional assistance with a statement relevant to the guest’s individual needs

Essential Functions of the Job:
• Oversee the set-up of functions including checking of the physical layout of the room, providing the servers with the proper set-up information; and post updated function sheets in the banquet kitchen
• Conduct pre-service meetings with staff
• Attend monthly department meetings; In the absence of the banquet manager attend weekly event order meeting
• Oversee the service of the function assigned by the Banquet Manager to insure the success of the function and staff adherence to all service rules
• Meet individual hosts and make him/herself accessible to the host for any need that may arise
• Complete china, glass and silver requisitions.     
• Properly close all banquet checks and complete the captain’s logbook at the completion of the function
• Oversee the clean-up of all functions and insuring the proper removal and storage of hotel linen and skirting
• Report all incidents to the Banquet Manager
• Prepare and post daily room assignments for servers including specific times for set-up and service
• Prepare daily payroll statistical reports
• Oversee proper clean up, handling and storage of all props and specialty china
• Assist the Banquet Manager in the annual performance evaluations of the banquet servers
• Respond properly in any hotel emergency or safety situation
• Perform other tasks or projects as assigned by hotel management and staff
• Ensure the proper care, security and maintenance of hotel equipment through proper supervision of service personnel
• Constantly monitor the staff’s appearance, attitude and degree of professionalism

Additional Job Duties:
• Complete tasks and projects delegated by your Supervisor and assist other departments as business volumes and staff levels demand
• Report to work in a neatly groomed and acceptable manner as outlined in the employee handbook and departmental rules
• Report to shift on time
• Enforce and comply with all policies and procedures for the Food and Beverage Department, The Limelight Hotel, and the Aspen Skiing Company

Education, Experience & Skills:
• High School Diploma or equivalent preferred
• Three years in food and beverage service required
• Wine knowledge, knowledge of food and cooking methods, ability to work well with people, strong organization and supervisory skills
 
Physical requirements of the position include:
• Ability to carry heavy loads such as trays and tables (40-60 pounds)
• Ability to pull heavy loads (300 pounds)
• Standing, bending, and stooping required
