Please note: This position will be based out of any location, depending on the location of the successful candidate:

In this role, you will:

  • Be reporting to the Director National Auto, the incumbent is accountable for developing, documenting and implementing technical claims standards, policies, procedures and audits for Auto Physical Damage (PD). This includes conducting line-specific analysis and providing technical line-specific advice to those in the field. The role will also be accountable for the development and implementation of process workflow for vendor program integration and auto line specific documentation as part of risk management of the auto PD portfolio nationally. 

Your Responsibilities

  • Developing and documenting standards, policies and procedures for the handling of line-specific claims (auto)

  • Reviewing and setting reserve guidelines and reconciliation standards

  • Handling company car claims (company fleet vehicles)

  • Tracking and assessing effectiveness of policy and procedures through the use of audits, inspections and surveys. This includes developing audit plans, selecting and evaluating auditors and documenting audit results. Conducting business analysis, e.g., loss trends, loss and expense control

  • Developing related line-specific research, analysis, trending, benchmarking, claims bulletins, quality assurance and risk management controls

  • Staying abreast of and keeping field staff informed of relevant industry, legal, and corporate developments

  • Acting as liaison with and providing necessary information to internal parties such as Actuarial and Underwriting. Acting as a member of the Catastrophe team as required

  • Providing technical claims advice in the related claims line of business to the field both within and outside of regional claims handling authority

  • Providing subject-matter expertise to training developers

  • Delivering Auto training as a facilitator as needed

  • Providing direction and subject matter expertise for training for all areas concerned when new procedures are introduced or revised

  • Manage complaints received through Economical Ombudsman to ensure compliance with regulations and current case law and provide appropriate guidance to regions regarding complaints

  • Acting as a subject matter expert making recommendation for systems and process changes. Providing/preparing business cases outlining a system or process changes required. Implementing changes, monitoring success, and modifying (if required)

  • Prioritizing projects and required system/process changes based on their potential impact on the business. Ensuring that any changes are properly documented. Reviewing all system changes and providing training to claims staff on changes as well as assisting with development plans for new recruits or developing staff

  • Ensuring that all claims standards relating to IBC and other regulatory bodies are met

 

Your Skills and Experience

  • University degree in any discipline or college diploma or the CIP designation

  • Minimum 7 years relevant auto claims experience

  • Claims handling experience is required

  • Experience with auto claims nationally is preferred

  • Knowledge of Economical underwriting and claims systems (CICS & CDS) is required

  • In depths skill set of MS applications (Word, Excel, Power Point)

  • Solid analytical and creative problem solving skills

  • Prior supervisor or management experience 

  • Ability to speak/write French would be an asset

  • Professional, friendly and courteous in all interactions, whether with customers or co-workers

  • Perform well in a busy operation and remain calm under pressure

  • Team player adaptable to a changing environment

  • Well organized with excellent time management skills and ability to multi-task

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Self-motivated, consistently demonstrating an ability to take initiative on any task

  • Detailed oriented
