You would be supporting the reporting and analysis related to the capital position and solvency of Economical Insurance and its subsidiaries. This position would support the maintenance and enhancement of the company’s current Dynamic Capital Adequacy Test (DCAT) model, along with supporting other department initiatives including exposure and capital management.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Have an in-depth understanding of DCAT & P&C insurance financial statements
  • Work with teams such as Finance and Enterprise Risk Management to prepare capital plans at various levels for Economical and execute on actions available to manage the company’s capital position
  • Recommend new approaches to enhance the current DCAT process and to further streamline it
  • Assist team with tasks related to public company readiness
  • Communicate actuarial concepts and be persuasive in providing recommendations to internal and external stakeholders
  • Identify opportunities for process efficiencies across business areas
  • Perform peer reviews on the technical and qualitative analysis of peers

JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • University degree in Actuarial Science/Statistics or a related field
  • Must have completed a minimum of 7 exams of the Casualty Actuarial Society (FCAS preferred)
  • Must have 7+ years of Canadian P&C Insurance experience with a solid working knowledge of various actuarial areas such as DCAT, capital management, loss reserving, reinsurance and pricing
  • Ability to communicate actuarial concepts to a non-actuarial audience
  • Must have excellent communication and organizational skills

TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES

  • Must possess strong programming and design skills in various forms of data manipulation
  • A good working knowledge of the following software packages would be an asset:  Microsoft applications (Excel, Access, etc), Visual Basic for Applications, Oracle Hyperion, Oracle Smart View, SAS or R
