The College of New Jersey seeks an energetic and forward-looking individual to serve as Associate Director of the Education Opportunity Fund (EOF). The Associate Director is a highly creative and experience-research based support services programming professional providing leadership and administrative day to day oversight for the Educational Opportunity Fund (EOF) Program.  This position directly impacts day to day operations and support services designed to facilitate learning experiences to promote student success in and out of the classroom supporting persistence, retention, and college completion. The Associate Director will foster increased collaborations within EOF and the Division of Enrollment Management, as well as work closely with Student Affairs, Academic Affairs, Faculty, and College Advancement to achieve the mission and vision of EOF.

Reporting to the Director of EOF Program, the Associate Director provides leadership and administrative oversight for the Education Opportunity Fund (EOF). The EOF program provides academic, financial, social/personal, and post graduate/career support to assist approximately 380 talented undergraduate and graduate students in overcoming economic and educational disadvantage.

Working jointly with the Director, the Associate Director collaborates with faculty, staff, and administrators to develop strategies and initiatives designed to enhance students' educational and social experiences, improve persistence, retention and graduation rates, and reduce time-to-degree. The Associate Director for EOF assists with the following functions: 1) Reporting/Budgeting/Managing Expenditures, 2) Research Based Program Development, Assessment, Evaluation, and Reporting, 3) Professional Development/Staff Supervision and Evaluation, 4) Establish and Maintain effective program communication strategies, 5) Coordinate and Manage EOF Program Day to Day operations. This position directly coordinates the EOF case management system and supervises departmental Program Specialists who perform these tasks. She/he will also coordinate the summer programs for incoming and continuing EOF students

In addition, the Associate Director will be responsible for the following:

  • Develop and implement High Impact Practices for working with first generation and underserved/underrepresented students

  • Set the direction of future phases of the On Track Advising Model

  • Provide oversight for the EOF Roster including new, current, transfer, and graduate student grant awards and enrollment

  • Oversee departmental operations and grant budgets, expenditures, fund reallocations, and journal entries.

  • Coordinate and manage program, student, and parent communication plan.

Specific requirements of the position include:

  • The successful candidate must be a strategic, innovative, analytic thinker and planner with expertise, energy, and interpersonal skills to build upon the department's strengths.

  • The ability to foster new cultural norms, imagining and implementing programmatic innovation, and leading the program and unit to new levels of excellence.

  • Must have a passion for working with a diverse student population, a commitment to student learning and development outcomes, and strong critical thinking and problem solving skills.

  • Proven experience with and a thorough understanding of principles and practices involved in advising, curriculum development, and research based early alert programs. 

  • Knowledge of FYE and SYE program development, theoretical models, best practices, and current issues supporting first and second year student transition, development and retention is essential.

  • Strong and effective communication, leadership, organizational, interpersonal and customer service skills are also critical to the position.

  • Demonstrated ability to utilize technology in the delivery of student programs strongly preferred.

  • Prior experience in event planning/management and program planning, as well as demonstrated ability to work collaboratively, solve complex interpersonal situations and prioritize multiple responsibilities are necessary.

Qualifications:

  • A Master's degree in higher education administration, student personnel services, or related area required. 

  • Minimum of 3 years of supervisory experience in higher education administration

  • Innovation Management experience, or a related field that is directly related to the function of this position with increasing responsibilities.

  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in academic advising, coordinating academic support services, and familiarity with Financial Aid, HESAA, and Student Accounts preferred.

Preference will be given to candidates with a background in one or more of the following areas:

  • Cognitive science or learning theory

  • Academic support programs

  • Opportunity programs

  • Study abroad and other international programs

  • Enrollment management (especially admissions and financial aid)

  • Summer bridge programs

  • Software packages or other information technology used to support these areas
