Wave Life Sciences USA seeks a highly motivated Process Development Scientist/ Research Associate to join its team of scientists in Lexington, Massachusetts. This is an ideal position for an individual with a strong background in oligonucleotide synthesis and analytical characterization and who thrives in a team-oriented, fast-paced, and cross-disciplinary biotech environment. The candidate will be part of a group focused on process characterization studies of synthesis, deprotection, and purification of oligonucleotides. This candidate will contribute to all levels of research to support development of optimized nucleic acid therapies in multiple disease areas. Prior experience in industry and/or oligonucleotide synthesis is desired but not required.



  • Synthesis of oligonucleotides, deprotection, purification, desalting and lyophilization of oligonucleotides to support projects in multiple disease areas
  • Optimization and scale up of synthesis and downstream processing methods
  • Supports continuous improvement initiatives and helps in implementing strategies once approved
  • Ability to operate and maintain lab instruments such as ÄKTA synthesizers, purifiers, HPLC and LC-MS in good operational conditions
  • Able to take directions from senior management and execute in timely manner
  • Conduct laboratory work in safe, efficient manner that ensures a safe working environment for colleagues
  • Familiarity with pre-clinical drug development and IND-enabling phase of therapeutic programs is desired but not required
  • Capacity to be highly productive in a fluid and fast-paced work environment
  • Present results clearly in both written and oral format
  • Keep accurate documentation of the experiments and summarize the results of the projects in written reports to support filings with the regulatory agencies



  • PhD in Organic Chemistry, or related discipline with 1-2 years of experience in an industrial environment preferred OR MS with at least 3 years of experience in industry environment. (BS 5 Years)



  • Strong knowledge of nucleic acids chemistry, oligonucleotide synthesis, deprotection and purification techniques
  • Experience with the ÄKTA line of synthesizers and purifiers preferred
  • Familiarity with analytical techniques and data interpretation HPLC, LC-MS, UV-Vis
