Position Overview

The primary role of the Systems Engineer is to maintain, administer, and provide support to the production, corporate, and development environment of the organization. The candidate must be proactive and have the ability to show initiative and act independently to resolve problems, manage multiple priorities, and follow through on projects/tasks to completion. The ideal candidate should also have excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

The role will be involved with development, QA, and production projects that include system design and architecture, programmer and development support and operational management within the application lifecycle process.  Ensuring all Windows and Linux systems and databases are online per business SLAs and are running satisfactory for all company needs.


The ideal candidate will have strong analytical and communication skills and the ability to manage a diverse workload in a fast-paced environment. Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Administer and support the Windows/Linux production, corporate, and development environments of the organization including servers and applications.
  • Participate in performance and capacity management/planning of physical and virtual servers and Storage Area Networks (SAN).
  • Collaborate in the management of the physical and logical security of the infrastructure.
  • Identify potential problems and recommend system administration best practices.
  • Maintain updated documentation and diagrams of the production, corporate, and development environments.
  • Configure, maintain, and replace hardware. Cisco UCS experience considered a plus.
  • Deploy system patches and firmware upgrades.
  • Monitor the server and network infrastructure with monitoring tools such as SolarWinds, Sumologic, NewRelic, etc.
  • Evaluate, recommend, and implement new technologies in the Windows and Linux, infrastructure as code, and CI/CD space.
  • Ensure system scalability, redundancy, and failover mechanisms are working and tested.
  • Stay abreast of current and future technologies in Windows and Linux.
  • Available for Tier 3 on-call support on a rotation basis.


  • Experience supporting Windows-based SaaS infrastructure.
  • Hands-on OS and enterprise experience in data center operations.
  • VMware vCenter and vSphere experience.
  • Storage and backup system experience, e.g., HPE, EMC, Veeam, etc.
  • Experience with Red Hat / CentOS deployments.
  • Experience maintaining and patching a secure server environment with Windows and Linux platforms, e.g., WSUS, AWX Tower, Foreman, etc.
  • Experience with logging solutions, e.g., Sumologic, Graylog, ELK, etc.
  • Scripting skills, e.g., Powershell and python.
  • Experience troubleshooting complex Windows and Linux systems.
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and skills may be acquired.
  • 10+ years of experience in engineering of complex computer systems with at least 3 years’ experience with a SaaS environment.
  • An adaptable team player with ability to communicate effectively.
  • Good working knowledge of VMware and how to manage VMs in that space.
  • Strong Windows/Linux troubleshooting skills in a Software as a Service environment.
  • Experience working with Development/QA personnel specifically in the area of code deployment. 
  • Experience with the enterprise level backup solutions such as Veeam.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Amazon Web Services, including S3, Glacier, EC2, EKS, Elasticsearch, Elastic Beanstalk and AWS CLI tools.
  • Experience with infrastructure as code technologies and CI/CD.
  • Familiarity with Python, JSON, and AWS CloudFormation.
  • Exposure to or understanding of container systems such as Docker and Kubernetes.
  • MySQL/MariaDB and Percona database design and management.
  • Hands-on LAMP stack experience (Linux, Apache, MySQL, and PHP).
  • System Automation tools experience, e.g., Ansible.
