Code Enforcement Officer

Duties: Investigate possible violations, contact responsible individuals in person and in writing, request discontinuance, removal or alteraton of conditions that violate city ordinances, perform follow up investigations; conduct field inspections to uncover unsafe, abandoned and dilapidated houses, vehicles or other private property in violation of city codes and ordinances; Perform initial, renewal and interim inspection of housing units for familites, ensure that housing meets minimum housing standrads; photograph condition of violation for the purpose of evidence and identification, prepare comprehension reports regarding cases; Carry out preventative enforcement, patrol assigned areas of the city to locate and document violations of city ordinance.
Qualifications: Two years of experience in building construction, code enforcement or related field; equivalent ot the completion of the twelfth (12) grade supplemented by additional training in construction of the building trades; Possession of, or the ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid driver's license. And ability to obtain certificaton as a building inspector through SBCCI with one year of employment.
RESIDENCY REQUIREMENT FOR CITY EMPLOYEES:
Within six (6) months from date of employment, must establish residence within the City of Jackson.
PRIOR TO EMPLOYMENT, APPLICANT RECOMMENDED FOR EMPLOYMENT SHALL BE REQUIRED TO SUCCESSFULLY PASS A URINALYSIS AND/OR BLOOD TEST TO SCREEN FOR ALCOHOL AND/OR DRUG ABUSE.
