Civil Engineer I

|Work Hours:||8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.|
Duties: Receive general direction from the City Engineer or Senior Civil Engineer for various Capital Infrastructure or Maintenance Infrastructure projects within the Department of Public Works Engineering Division. Coordinate and oversee various Public Works and Engineering projects as assigned; monitor and administer City Engineering contracts and act as a liaison between the City of Jackson and other Federal, local or County governmental agencies. Respond to questions from contractors, developers, engineers and the general public related to assigned area of responsibility. Perform minimum design duties under the supervision of a senior engineer preparing plans and specifications for new drainage, water, sewer, bridge, and transportation systems. Investigate field problems affecting property owners, contractors, and maintenance operations for streets, traffic, water sewer, and other infrastructure systems review estimates from consultants and contractors for accuracy and recommending payment for services rendered under the contract. Provide engineering technical assistance to the other departments within Public Works and other divisions within the City of Jackson. Coordinate and oversee plan checks for private new developments affecting City streets, sewers, drains and related plans; assure compliance with appropriate codes, ordinances, rules, and regulations. Review construction plans and activities in and around the City of Jackon corporate limits. Perform other technical and non-technical duties as assigned.
Qualifications: Knowledge of principle and practices of civil engineering from an accredited Civil Engineering Program. A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in civil or environmental engineering or a related engineering field. License or Certificate; Possession of, or ability to obtain a State of Mississippi Engineer in Training license within one year of employment.
RESIDENCY REQUIREMENT FOR CITY EMPLOYEES:
Within six (6) months from date of employment, must establish residency within the City of Jackson.
