Water Plant Maintenance Supervisor

Description

Duties: Supervise, assign, review and participate in the work of staff responsible for the maintenance and repair of water treatment plants, wells, pumps, and related systems; and to perform a variety of technical tasks. Supervise the maintenance and repair of plant equipment, machinery, and controls, oversee the repair and maintenance of wells systems and elevated and ground storage tanks. Plan, schedule and supervise all building and grounds maintenance activities for water plant facilities, wells, and tank locations. Maintain inventory of supplies, tools, and equipment; prepares purchase requisitions to order parts supplies. Inspect plant facilities and equipment of needed maintenance and repairs; implement and monitor a preventive maintenance program. Participate in the selection of water plant maintenance staff; provide or coordinate staff training; evaluate employee performance; work with employees to correct deficiencies and implement discipline procedures. Prepare various reports on plant maintenance operations and activities. Participate in the preparation and administration of the budget; submit recommendations and monitor expenditures and ensure the adherence to safe work practices by maintenance personnel. Respond to emergencies as necessary, coordinate and assign staff in emergency situations, make decisions to resolve emergency conditions resulting from equipment or machinery malfunctions. Supervise and direct the receiving and unloading of plant chemicals and respond to and resolve citizen inquiries and complaints.

 

Qualifications: Five years of journey-level mechanical and electrical maintenance experience, including two years of lead or supervisory responsibility. Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade supplemented by specialized training in water treatment, plant maintenance or a related field. Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid driver's license.

 

RESIDENCY REQUIREMENT FOR CITY EMPLOYEES:

Within six (6) months from date of employment, must establish residency within the City of Jackson.

PRIOR TO EMPLOYMENT, APPLICANT RECOMMENDED FOR EMPLOYMENT SHALL BE REQUIRED TO SUCCESSFULLY PASS A URINALYSIS AND/OR BLOOD TEST TO SCREEN FOR ALCOHOL AND/OR DRUG ABUSE.
