Animal Control Officer

Duties: Patrol assigned area of the city to search for loose animals; prioritize calls using Animal Control Division guidelines; respond to calls and complaints regarding dead or loose animals. Patrol city streets and roads; search for stray dogs and other domestic animals and livestock. Enforce city animal control laws; interpret and explain to the public ordinances relating to the care and keep of animals; issue citations for violations of animal control ordinances; appear in court as necessary. Impound, quarantine, and dispose of animals as appropriate; transport injured animals to a veterinarian to be treated or euthanized. Investigate reports or complaints of dogs, cats or other animals creating nuisances; take appropriate action to investigate reports of animal abuse. Maintain vehicle and equipment in proper working condition; clean and repair vehicle and equipment as necessary. Prepare and maintain a variety of daily records and reports.
Qualifications: High School Diploma or Equivalent of completion of the twelfth grade. Some experience in the handling of animals is desirable. Possession of, or ability to obtain, a quarterly, Shooting Range Certificate administered by the City of Jackson Police Department.
RESIDENCY REQUIREMENT FOR CITY EMPLOYEES:
Within six (6) months from date of employment, must establish residency within the City of Jackson.
PRIOR TO EMPLOYMENT, APPLICANT RECOMMENDED FOR EMPLOYMENT SHALL BE REQUIRED TO SUCCESSFULLY PASS A URINALYSIS AND/OR BLOOD TEST TO SCREEN FOR ALCOHOL AND/OR DRUG ABUSE.
