DUTIES: Assign, oversee, review and participate in the work of a crew responsible for providing public works or parks maintenance construction, maintenance, repair, and cleaning services including the areas of streets, drainage, water maintenance/distribution, sewer and storm sewer, maintenance or parks. Provide training to new crew members; work with employees to correct deficiencies. Must be able to operate and drive a variety of specialized equipment utilized in assigned projects including dump trucks, backhoes, loaders, bulldozers, tractor lawnmowers, power and hand tools such as chain saws, weed eaters, paint sprayer, water pump, air compressor, pipe threaders, compressors, jackhammers, sandblasters, concrete saws, and related equipment. Install street barricades and cones prior to the performance of and repair activities; direct and control traffic around work sites. Complete and maintain records of time, material and equipment usage. Inspect the work of crews while in progress; provide advice and assistance to crew members. Perform semi-skilled and skilled maintenance, construction and repair work in the area of work assigned. Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS: Three (3) years of maintenance and/or construction experience. Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade supplemented by training in the maintenance or construction trade. Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid driver’s license.
RESIDENCY REQUIREMENT FOR CITY EMPLOYEES: Within six (6) months from date of employment, must establish residence within the City of Jackson.
PRIOR TO EMPLOYMENT, APPLICANT RECOMMENDED FOR EMPLOYMENT SHALL BE REQUIRED TO SUCCESSFULLY PASS A URINALYSIS AND/OR BLOOD TEST TO SCREEN FOR ALCOHOL AND/OR DRUG ABUSE.
