Sewer Meter Maintenance Worker

Description

Duties: Monitor, measure and record sewage flow from the sewer meter reading stations; check meter operations including checking time and ink; re cord chart reading; clean fumes and pipes; remove grease, debris, sand, grit, and silt; check flume depth and compare to meter reading; inspect meters including changing charts and removing and replacing functional processor; calibrate meters; install flow meters; adjust and repair as necessary; check ozone generator, lamps and ballast; record hydrogen sulfide gas reading; adjust air on compressor pump; perform general maintenance at meter stations, clean flumes and pipes; remove septic debris and clean manholes; inspect sewers for blockage and vandalism; cut grass and perform general housekeeping tasks at sewer reading stations; apply herbicides, pesticides and fungicides to grass and weeds as necessary; prepare records and reports on sewer meter readigs and maintenance work performed; maintain accurate and complete records on chart readings; ensure that customers are accurately billed ; operate and maintain equipment and tools in the inspection and calibration of sewer meters including calibration meter, gas detector , and voltmeter; estimate material and equipment needs; review requests with supervisor; perform other duties as assigned. Methods and techniques of measuring sewage flow; knowledge of tools, material, and equipment used to perform assigned duties and responsibilities; occupational hazards and standard safety precautions; methods and techniques of record keeping; ability to read sewage meter; remove and install flow meters; use and operate hand tools and mechanical equipment for assigned work; prepare and maintain accurate records; work independently in absence of supervision; understand and follow instructions. 

 

Qualifications: Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying; a typical wat to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be two years of responsible maintenance experience, preferably in utility operations; equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade and possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid driver's license. 

 

RESIDENCY REQUIREMENT FOR CITY EMPLOYEES: Within six (6) months from date of employment, must establish residence within the City of Jackson.

 

Before EMPLOYMENT, APPLICANT RECOMMENDED FOR EMPLOYMENT SHALL BE REQUIRED TO SUCCESSFULLY PASS A URINALYSIS AND/OR BLOOD TEST TO SCREEN FOR ALCOHOL AND/OR DRUG ABUSE.
