Utility Plant Electrician

Duties: To perform skilled electrical work in the repair, installation, maintenance, and alteration of electrical equipment and wiring systems related to the city's water treatment plants, water tanks. Troubleshoot, diagnose, disabled electrical and electronic equipment in the city's water treatment plants, water wells, and water tanks including motors, coils, transformers, and lighting systems. Install new electrical services and equipment, run conduit for fixtures, receptacles, control circuits, lighting, select and install wires, perform routine hookups, and test installation. Diagnosing motors for overload and failure, perform voltage and resistance tests, calibrate solid State circuit boards, upgrade existing electrical services. Troubleshoot boiler and incinerator furnace burners for pilot ignition failures. Resolve problems of balancing electrical loads, peak loading, overloading, and phasing. Estimate material and labor costs necessary for electrical installation, upgrade electrical services, and repair projects. Knowledge of functions and service requirements of electric motors, water pumps, turbine pumps, chlorination, fluoridation, and metering equipment. Electrical codes and standards and to utilize a variety of hand tools including strippers, crimpers, and various electrician tools.
Qualifications: Possession of an appropriate valid Electrician's Certificate issued by the City of Jackson Electrical Board of Examiners.
RESIDENCY REQUIREMENT FOR CITY EMPLOYEES:
Within six (6) months from date of employment, must establish residence within the City of Jackson.
PRIOR TO EMPLOYMENT, APPLICANT RECOMMENDED FOR EMPLOYMENT SHALL BE REQUIRED TO SUCCESSFULLY PASS A URINALYSIS AND/OR BLOOD TEST TO SCREEN FOR ALCOHOL AND/OR DRUG ABUSE.
