Meter Reading Superintendent

Duties: Assume management responsibility for all meter reading services and activities within the Water/Sewer Business Administration. Participate in the development and implementation of goals, objectives, policies, and priorities for meter reading services; recommend and administer policies and procedures. Plan, prioritize, assign, supervise and review the work plan for the Meter Reading Unit; meet with staff to identify and resolve problems; assign work activities, opportunities for improvement and review with Utilities Service Manager. Assist in the preparation of the budget for the meter reading section; forecast funds needed for staffing, equipment, materials, and supplies; monitor expenditures; implement adjustments. Select, train, motivate and evaluate meter personnel; provide or coordinate staff training; work with employees to correct deficiencies, implement discipline and termination procedures. Ensure the use of proper safety clothing and equipment by meter readers. Respond to and resolve difficult and sensitive customer inquiries and complaints regarding meter reading services. Schedule and ensure proper maintenance of all assigned vehicles.
Qualifications: High School Diploma or equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade; supplemented by specialized training in meter reading operations and customer relations. Six years of increasingly responsible experience in meter reading operations including three years of supervisory responsibility. Additional specialized training in meter reading is desirable. Possession of, or ability to obtain an appropriate valid driver's license.
RESIDENCY REQUIREMENT FOR CITY EMPLOYEES:
Within six (6) months from date of employment, must establish residence within the City of Jackson.
PRIOR TO EMPLOYMENT, APPLICANT RECOMMENDED FOR EMPLOYMENT SHALL BE REQUIRED TO SUCCESSFULLY PASS A URINALYSIS AND/OR BLOOD TEST TO SCREEN FOR ALCOHOL AND/OR DRUG ABUSE.
