Street Maintenance Superintendent

|Work Hours:||7:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.|
DUTIES: Coordinate the organization, staffing and operational activities for Street Maintenance including maintenance, construction and repair the city streets and roads; operate equipment used to maintain and repair city streets including paving roller, pothole patcher, motor graders, backhoes, box tractors, street sweepers, dump trucks and other related equipment; recommend and prepare work schedules and assign work to crews; direct the repair of potholes and broken areas in city streets; maintain record of completed work; inspect work in progress as necessary; select, train, motivate and evaluate Street Maintenance personnel; provide or coordinate staff training; work with employees to correct deficiencies; implement discipline and termination procedures; coordinate Street Maintenance activities with those of other divisions and outside agencies and organizations; provide staff assistance to the Engineering Manager; prepare and present staff reports and other necessary correspondence; attend and participate in professional group meetings; stay abreast to new trends and innovations in the field of street maintenance; ensure the adherence to safe work practices by assigned personnel; respond to and resolve difficult and sensitive inquires and complaints; may work evenings and weekends as necessitated by emergency situations. Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS: Six (6) years of responsible experience working in street maintenance, repair and construction including three (3) years of supervisory or administrative responsibility; equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade supplemented by specialized training in street maintenance and repair. Knowledge of the operational characteristics and activities of a street maintenance program, modern principles and practices of street construction and maintenance; the ability to organize, direct and implement a comprehensive street maintenance program. Possession of Class A Commercial Driver’s License.
RESIDENCY REQUIREMENT FOR CITY EMPLOYEES:Within six (6) months from date of employment, must establish residence within the City of Jackson.
