Sr. maintenance Worker

Description

Duties: Assign, oversee, review and participate in the work of a crew responsible for providing public works. Provide training the new crew members; work with employees to correct deficiencies. Estimate time and material requirement; make routine and emergency purchases as authorized and required. Operate or drive a variety of specialized equipment utilized in assigned projects including dump truck, backhoes, loaders, bulldozers, tractors, and power and hand tools such as chain saws, weed eaters. Paint sprayer, water pump air compressor, pipe threaders, compressors, jack hammers, sand blasters, concrete saws and related traffic around work sites. Complete and maintain records of time, material and equipment usage. Inspect the work crews while in progress; provide advice and assistance to crew members. Enhance the adherence to safe work practices by assigned crew including the use of cones, barricade and safety attire. May work evenings and weekends as required by staffing shortages or emergency situation. Perform other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications: Ability to perform semi-skilled and skilled maintenance, construction and repair work in the area of work assigned. Lead and review to work of assigned crew. Principles of lead supervision and training. Basic principles and procedures of record keeping. Work independently in the absence of supervision. Understand and follow oral written instructions. Communicate clearly an concisely. establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contracted in the course of work. Three years of maintenance and/or construction experience. Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade supplemented by training in the maintenance and construction trade. Possession of, or ability to obtain, and appropriate valid driver's license.

RESIDENCY REQUIREMENT FOR CITY EMPLOYEES:

Within six (6) months from date of employment, must establish residence within the City of Jackson.

PRIOR TO EMPLOYMENT, APPLICANT RECOMMENDED FOR EMPLOYMENT SHALL BE REQUIRED TO SUCCESSFULLY PASS A URINALYSIS AND/OR BLOOD TEST TO SCREEN FOR ALCOHOL AND/OR DRUG ABUSE.
