Duties: Provide lead supervision over subordinate staff; delegate work assignments; review work in progress; provide training to new employees. Troubleshoot plumbing malfunctions and identify plan of action to resolve problems. Inspect municipal buildings to determine plumbing needs. Drain, clean and maintain city swimming pools; install and repair filters and motors; test water for proper chemicals and add chemicals as necessary; paint pools; maintain records for usage of swimming pool chemicals. Install, maintain, test and adjust gas water heaters, electric water heaters, and gas stoves; repair gas leaks in gas lines. Install, maintain and repair toilets, urinals, sinks, showers and other bathroom fixtures. Install new drinking fountains and make repairs as necessary. Prepare estimates of time and materials necessary to perform plumbing jobs.
Qualifications: Knowledge of methods, materials, tools, equipment and procedures used in the plumbing trade. Knowledge of tools and equipment used in plumbing activities. Knowledge of uniform plumbing codes. Provide lead supervision over subordinate staff and delegate work assignments. Ability to assess and troubleshoot a wide range of plumbing problems. Install, maintain and repair a variety of fixtures, pipes and line. Understand and follow written and oral instructions. Two(2)years of responsible journey level plumbing experience. Equivalent to completion of the 12th grade supplemented by the completion of a formal plumber's apprenticeship program. Possession of, or ability to obtain and appropriate, valid driver's license. Possession of, or ability to obtain an appropriate, valid Journeyman Plumbing Repair Card issued by the City of Jackson.
RESIDENCY REQUIREMENT FOR CITY EMPLOYEES:
Within six (6) months from date of employment, must establish residence within the City of Jackson.
PRIOR TO EMPLOYMENT, APPLICANT RECOMMENDED FOR EMPLOYMENT SHALL BE REQUIRED TO SUCCESSFULLY PASS A URINALYSIS AND/OR BLOOD TEST TO SCREEN FOR ALCOHOL AND/OR DRUG ABUSE.
