Senior Deputy City Attorney
|Work Hours:||8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.|
Duties: Provide legal represenatation to the City of Jackson. Conduct legal research and prepare sound legal opinions. Ability to draft city ordinances, resolutions, contracts, and leases. Write legal opinions affecting the City.Participate in a variety of committees, boards, authorities, comissions and task forces; attend and participate in professional group meetings. Represent the City before administrative and quasi judicial boards. Responsible for participating in budget preparation and administration; Provide legal advice and assistance to assigned city departments. Review legal forms such as bids, contracts and bonds for services and supplies to the city. Knowledge of workers' compensation law, personnel suits. Civil Service matters and other personnel related matters. Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications: Twelve (12) years of responsible legal experience, preferably in municipal law. A Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school. Possession of a license to practice law in the State of Mississippi.
RESIDENCY REQUIREMENT FOR CITY EMPLOYEES:
Within six (6) months from date of employment, must establish residence within the City of Jackson.
PRIOR TO EMPLOYMENT, APPLICANT RECOMMENDED FOR EMPLOYMENT SHALL BE REQUIRED TO SUCCESSFULLY PASS A URINALYSIS AND/OR BLOOD TEST TO SCREEN FOR ALCOHOL AND/OR DRUG ABUSE.
