Project Summary

The Preparedness and Response (P&R) Project, a component of the USAID Emerging Pandemic Threats 2 (EPT 2) program, supports the strengthening of National One Health Platforms (NOHPs) and preparedness and response planning. NOHPs are the platforms for multidisciplinary and multi-sectoral collaboration at the country level, and provide the basis for ensuring that core capacities are in place for detecting, reporting, and responding to emerging pandemic threats.

Position Purpose

Initially, the communications intern will work with P&R’s communications specialist to update the web site, develop the intranet site, contribute to project reporting (such as the GHSA report or semi-annual report) and help maintain project knowledge management systems. The communications intern will generate project content and revise drafts with field teams as needed. They will also work with the Communications Specialist to provide additional internal communications support as needed.

Anticipated Tasks and Responsibilities

  1. Draft website content based on existing updates.
  2. Draft success stories with field input as needed.
  3. Assist with GHSA and semi-annual report generation
  4. Provide support to publications, internal communications, and other responsibilities of the Communications Specialist as needed.

Schedule and Level of Effort

Work location – USA:            Approximated:

                                                8 hours a week in DAI’s Bethesda office.

                                                12 hours a week at home or any other remote location.                                        


The intern shall work under the direction of the Communications Specialist and in close coordination with the Deputy Director, both based in Bethesda, Maryland.

Desired Qualifications

  • Completed undergraduate-level coursework in Communications or a related field
  • Experience writing web or printed publication content, such as for a newspaper, newsletter, blog, or other social media platform
  • Experience working with Adobe products such as InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator

Desired Candidate Profile

You are an analytical and agile self-starter who works well under pressure and can work independently on specific tasks, checking in and following up with a busy and global technical staff as appropriate.  You write well and can communicate clearly to a wide range of stakeholders within the project organization.  You are upbeat and a friendly team player.
