Function of the Position:

The Office of Information Management and Technology (OIMT) is seeking a Senior or Principal System Administrator to be part of the team responsible for the management and oversight of DAI’s core IT infrastructure needs in all its corporate and project offices. This role works closely with other OIMT System Administrators and subject-matter experts on all technical issues involving the company’s information technology systems. The Senior Systems Administrator provides operations, administration and maintenance support for global Windows Server Active Directory environment supported by a CISCO based wide-area network. She or he is also responsible for the administration and maintenance of various on-premises and cloud-based server systems and applications such as Office 365, Azure, VMWare, HP servers and storage, Cisco Call Manager and Telepresence, and Sophos among others.

The Senior Systems Administrator participates in the technical planning, project coordination, scheduled or unscheduled maintenance and other operational support requirements throughout the lifecycle of the systems. This role requires a balance of both excellent customer relationship management skills and IT technical knowledge.


Roles and Responsibilities: 

  • Troubleshoot application, network communications and storage problems
  • Analyze software and hardware constraints to plan for user requirements
  • Monitor performance of systems for their assigned functional area
  • Install hardware and software on project servers pre- and post-field deployment
  • Travel to project sites and deploy project networks, servers, and workstations
  • Deploy and maintain firewalls in corporate headquarters and project sites.
  • Install hardware upgrades for servers, gateways, appliances, and associated telecommunication devices and assist with the administration and maintenance of the IP telephony systems as required.
  • Perform installation, configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of end user desktops at project locations.
  • Perform diagnostics on system operations to identify potential user constraints
  • Track and resolve problems which have a negative impact on systems operations
  • Address customer concerns and obtain additional or clarifying data as necessary in order to recommend corrective actions.
  • Plan and provide advice on the implementation of revised procedures, processes, methods or approaches.
  • Analyze the existing operational plans and update/replace as necessary in order to accomplish the mission
  • Utilize the developed production procedures and perform customer assistance functions as part of daily support
  • Assist in supporting other technical team members in problem analysis activities
  • Complete all necessary documentation pertaining to server maintenance, configuration, change and release management and coordinate with all necessary organizations and personnel in order to respond to and address new systems maintenance requirements, request for changes and service outages.
  • Coordinate and execute a full system restoration in the event of a catastrophic failure
  • Implement disaster recovery plan for operating systems, databases, networks, servers, and software applications;
  • Perform other technical and non-technical duties as assigned.
  • Perform or support security audits.
  • Recommend, schedule, and perform software improvements and upgrades.
  • Provide guidance to junior members of the team.
  • The position also requires after hours support including weekends and holidays, in the event of issues arising during non-duty hours. Travel for up to 40% of time may be required.


Additional duties may be assigned based on evolving business needs.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Grade 8:  5 years relevant professional experience and a bachelor’s degree; or 3 years relevant professional experience and a master’s degree.
  • Grade 9:  7 years relevant professional experience and a bachelor’s degree; or 5 years relevant professional experience and a master’s degree.

An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered. Successful completion of a relevant IT certification may be substituted for one year of experience.

  • Experience with Windows 2008/2012/2016 server and Microsoft Active Directory
  • Experience with Windows 7/8/10 desktop operating systems
  • Experience with server patching/software loading and deployment systems
  • Strong customer service orientation.
  • Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.
  • Experience with Cisco networking


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of or experience in international development.
  • Experience with usability testing and user research.
