Human Resources Intern

International Development

Responding to the needs of our growing business, alongside our desire to develop future talent, DAI is offering a 12-month placement role as part of our 2018/19 programme. The 12-month placement will be spent in our Human Resources department and, if successful, there may be the opportunity for employment in a permanent role at the conclusion of your degree.

This internship will start in September 2018 (or earlier if the candidate is available), for a duration of 12 months.

DAI offers a salary, commensurate with an internship role, of £14,700 pa. The positions will be based in DAI’s spacious, custom-designed offices in Apsley, 30 minutes out of London Euston – with excellent rail and motorway links to London and the region.

 

Main purpose of role: To spend 12 months with the Human Resources Department and to work as part of the team to, support activities to develop and implement arrangements to enable the company to continuously comply with the data protection legislation and other compliance matters, whilst gaining insight and practical experience in the international development sector. 

 

Key tasks, duties and responsibilities:

  • To support the development and implementation of DAI’s arrangements for compliance with GDPR, including the development of good practice to ensure efficiency in compliance. This will involve supporting the development of policies and procedures, communications, internal networks and guidance.
  • To provide support to team colleagues in coordinating and managing responses to information requests, and requests for personal information under the Data Protection Act
  • .To develop and maintain information management and record -keeping systems related to areas of responsibility. Support the update and maintenance of the retention schedule and physical items inventory log;
  • To prepare reports on activities;
  • To liaise with colleagues across the organisation in order to seek information and provide advice

Other:

  • Maintenance of confidentiality of information; it will be necessary to comply with requirements related to the Data Protection Act/ General Data Protection Regulation

 

You will work to structured goals and will, with your line manager, review the success of your contribution to determine whether there is a mutual fit for a permanent role at the end of your placement.

 

About you

  • You should be seeking a year’s placement part-way through a 3-4 year first degree in a relevant discipline e.g. international development; business; human resources; management or similar discipline.
  • Demonstrable understanding of and interest in international development and working in an international/multi-cultural environment.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Strong organisational skills.
  • Pro-active, assertive and action-oriented with strong intellectual ability and agility.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and to tight deadlines.
  • An ability to speak a second European language would be a useful attribute.
