Through the USAID/Honduras Asegurando la Educación project, DAI supports USAID/Honduras to implement innovations to address school-based violence (SBV) that impedes the delivery of education, and use education and school processes to contribute to violence prevention in target communities. As part of the USAID/Honduras’ Country Development Cooperation Strategy (CDCS) Development Objective 1, project activities focus on schools and communities in the municipalities of Tegucigalpa, San Pedro de Sula, La Ceiba, Choloma and Tela.

DAI will assist the Government of Honduras (GOH) institutions at the national and local level,  as well as schools, community and civil society organizations, and vulnerable populations in the target communities to achieve the project’s four objectives: Improve school ability to reduce SBV through creation of safe learning environments; strengthen local networks that increase school safety; increase the capacity of the Ministry of Education and social protection actors to prevent and respond to SBV; and lower risk factors and enhance protective factors for students that qualify for secondary prevention services.  


The International Writing Associate will be responsible for composing administrative and technical reports for the Asegurando la Educación project in English and in accordance with USAID standards and requirements. The International Writing Associate will gather necessary data for each report, write and edit each of them, and submit them to senior management for review.


The International Writing Associate will work closely with the project Chief of Party, Senior School-Based Violence Prevention Advisor, Communications Specialist, and other technical staff to:

  • Review previous relevant documents, including: annual work plans, quarterly reports, and weekly newsletters

  • Draft a variety of English-language deliverables

  • Edit and proofread reports, newsletters, presentations, and other documents for USAID and partners

  • Support formatting documents for printing and publication

  • Conceptualize and conduct, in conjunction with the technical staff, the production of success stories for dissemination to the client

  • Gather the necessary inputs for quarterly and other required reports to USAID

  • Support the drafting and editing of Scopes of Work, Requests for Assistance, Requests for Proposals, and Requests for Quotations

  • Support other writing-related tasks and duties as assigned



  • A Bachelor’s degree in international development, education, communications, or a related field
  • Outstanding writing skills
  • Native spoken and written English proficiency
  • Fluency in written and spoken Spanish
  • Experience writing, editing and proof-reading documents in English
  • Microsoft Office proficiency
  • Strong interpersonal and problem solving abilities
  • Ability to think critically, produce results, and work effectively in a team


  • A Master’s degree in international development, education, communications, or a related field
  • Experience working with civil society, inter-governmental organizations, media, and government agencies
  • Previous experience on a USAID project
  • Experience in Central America, specifically Honduras


  • This position will be based in Tegucigalpa, Honduras and will require some travel within the country (to be paid for by the project). The work schedule will be full-time, 8am – 5pm, Monday through Friday.

  • Round trip airfare to and from Tegucigalpa, Honduras will be covered by the project.

  • The position will last 6 months with the potential to be extended up to a total of 10 months.

  • The compensation for this position will be $82.50/day. The project will also provide a monthly housing stipend of $500.
